<p>All armed officers are required to be Taser trained and carry the device. As at
31 March 2018, there were 6,459 armed officers in England and Wales.</p><p>Unarmed
officers can also carry the device if they have completed special Taser training.
However, the number of specially trained Taser officers is an operational matter for
chief officers to determine based on their assessment of threat and risk. The Home
Office does not hold information on the number of unarmed officers who have been trained.</p>
