Our intention remains to establish a comprehensive and legally binding agreement on internal security which would enable continuing cooperation based on EU measures.</p><p>However, we are preparing for all eventualities. In a no-deal scenario, UK law enforcement agencies will use well-established alternative mechanisms to co-operate with partners on a police-to-police basis. This will include use of the INTERPOL secure network and pre-existing bi-lateral channels to facilitate police cooperation on child abduction cases.</p>

	answer	answer answer text <p>The focus of Government activity with regards to prostitution and sex work is to tackle the harm and exploitation that can be associated with it, and we believe that people who want to leave prostitution should be given every opportunity to find routes out.</p><p>The Government has commissioned a research project into the prevalence and nature of prostitution in England and Wales; to inform the evidence base before any changes are made to policy and legislation in respect of prostitution. This independent research is being led by the University of Bristol and we anticipate receiving their report in the Spring this year.</p><p>It is illegal to keep a brothel in England and Wales, or to allow premises to be used as one, and the law does not distinguish between types of brothel.</p><p>Enforcement action is an operational matter for the police, who are in the best position to identify and respond to issues related to prostitution and sex work in their communities. They are supported in this by guidance developed by the National Policing Lead for prostitution, which emphasises the priority given to protecting vulnerable people from harm.</p>

	answer	answer answer text <p>The delivery of the animals in science regulatory framework will continue with the same standards of oversight, rigour and scrutiny following the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union.</p><p>The Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (EU Exit) Regulations 2019 do not alter the requirement for the UK to publish annual statistics on the use of animals in science.</p><p>The Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (EU Exit) Regulations 2019 regulations do not alter either the Guidance on the Operation of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act, which sets out its administration and enforcement, nor the published Code of Practice on the housing and care requirements for animals used in science. The Code of Practice will retain the requirements of Directive 2010/63/EU and any other higher standards already adopted by the UK.</p>

	answer	answer answer text <p>Approximately 40 individuals have been prosecuted on their return from Syria, either because of offences committed overseas or for activity linked to their involvement in conflict overseas. The offences cover TACT offences and non-TACT offences, but are only included if they were the result of investigations into terrorist-related activity. Not all of the convictions relate to activity in Syria or even TACT offences. All 40 were found guilty of the offences they were charged with.</p><p>We do not comment on specific operational matters in order to protect our national security so as not to reveal operational tactics. It would therefore be inappropriate to break down these figures further or to release information about the specific cases involved.</p><p>Please note that the safety and security of our country, our people and our communities remains the Government’s number one priority.</p><p>Around 900 people of national security concern travelled from the UK to engage in the conflict in Syria and Iraq. Of these, approximately 20% have been killed while overseas, and around 40% have returned to the UK.</p><p>The majority of those who have returned, did so in the earlier stages of the conflict, and were investigated on their return. A significant proportion of these individuals are assessed as no longer being of national security concern.</p><p>Everyone who returns from taking part in the conflict in Syria or Iraq must expect to be investigated by the police to determine if they have committed criminal offences, and to ensure that they do not pose a threat to our national security.</p>

	answer	answer answer text <p>The British Nationality Act 1981 provides the Secretary of State with powers to deprive a person of citizenship status. Section 40(2) allows the Secretary of State to deprive any person of British citizenship, should they deem it conducive to the public good to do so. Section 40(3) allows the Secretary of State to deprive a person who has obtained citizenship by naturalisation or registration, where the Secretary of State is satisfied that citizenship was obtained by means of fraud, false representation or concealment of material fact.</p><p>Three reports have been published to date in 2015, 2017 and 2018, providing figures for section 40(2) deprivations since 2010, this is the deprivation power most likely to be applied to those returning from Syria.
