	answer	answer answer text <p>The Government recognises the importance of effective and timely handling of correspondence with members of the House of Lords. Government departments should aim to provide a substantive response to routine correspondence within a maximum of 20 working days. However, sometimes circumstances dictate that it will not be possible to provide a response within this timeframe. In such instances, departments are advised to issue a ‘holding’ response until a more substantive response can be provided.</p><p>The Cabinet Office publishes an annual report detailing departmental performance in the handling of correspondence from members of both Houses. Lord Young of Cookham set out the 2017 performance figures in a Written Statement on 26 June 2018 (HLWS771). 	answer	answer answer text <p>The Post Office in central Clacton-on-Sea is not being downgraded, but rather transferred to WHSmith so that it is operated on a franchise basis. WHSmith already operate 135 Post Office branches and the vast majority of branches, around 98% of the 11,500-branch network, are already operated by third parties on a franchise or agency basis.</p><p> </p><p>The Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy has not received any representations on the franchising of the Post Office in Central Clacton-on-Sea. 	answer	answer answer text <p>The Political Declaration on the future relationship between the EU and the UK says “the Parties should establish provisions to facilitate electronic commerce, address unjustified barriers to trade by electronic means, and ensure an open, secure and trustworthy online environment for businesses and consumers”. This means that the UK and EU agree to work together to address unjustified barriers to the free flow of non-personal data, where they could disrupt businesses, such as rules restricting where data must be stored and processed. As for the ‘appropriate protection for...geographical indications’, the Political Declaration reaffirms that GI’s should be dealt with in the context of our future economic partnership; but it is also true that UK GIs such as Scotch whisky, Welsh lamb and Cornish Pasties will continue to be protected by the EU.</p><p>The detail of how this will apply under the future relationship will be for further negotiation with the EU after our exit in March 2019.</p><p> </p> question first answered 13/12/2018 15:21:19 answering member 4336

Our Ambassador to Burma met the Burmese Attorney-General on 9 August and made clear that freedom of the media was a vital safeguard in a democracy.
