unstar this property answer text <p><del class="ministerial">The UK Government remains focussed on ensuring a smooth and orderly withdrawal from the EU with a deal as soon as possible, and we have been clear that we do not want or expect a no deal scenario. However, as a responsible government, we continue to prepare for all scenarios.</del></p><p><del class="ministerial">The Home Office has been planning and preparing for a no deal scenario for some time, and we have contingency plans in place across areas including law enforcement, passports and the border. Whatever the outcome of our exit from the EU, we remain committed to supporting the delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals both domestically and internationally. The UK’s first Voluntary National Review (VNR) will be published shortly. The VNR will review UK action both domestically and internationally in support of Goal 16. It will also outline key challenges and next steps, recognising that while progress is being made, there is more work to do.</del></p><p><ins class="ministerial">The Government believes that there is a legal framework for the use of live facial recognition technology, although that is being challenged in the courts and we would not want to pre-empt the outcome of this case.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">The police have common law powers to use the technology for the purposes of preventing or detecting crime. Part 3 of the Data Protection Act 2018 is the statutory basis for the processing of the facial images obtained from the technology for these purposes. Possible matches produced by these sys-tems are always checked by a human operator before deciding what, if any, action to take.</ins></p>

unstar this property answer text <p>The effective management of investigations, including the prompt communication of their outcomes, is an operational matter for the police.</p><p>After an arrest, the police need to carry out further investigations before a charge is brought then the police may release a suspect on pre-charge bail or release them under investigation (RUI).</p><p>The National Police Chief’s Council has recently published guidance on the use of pre-charge bail and RUI. The guidance sets out the steps the police should take to make sure the prompt completion of their investigations, whether suspects are released with or without pre-charge bail. The Home Office will continue to support the police in their efforts to prevent and investigate crimes, including by providing the biggest increase in police funding since 2010.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The Home Office does not set stop and search targets</p><p>Stop and search can only be carried out when legal thresholds have been met, and as such setting central targets for the number of searches would not be appropriate.</p><p>We are not aware of targets being set by individual forces. Stop and search can be an important tool in fighting violence, with searches last year resulting in nearly 8,000 arrests for weapons and firearms offences.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The Home Office does not hold or collect information on the public cost when a police officer is suspended during misconduct investigations. Forces may hold this information at a local level.</p><p>The Government has introduced a number of reforms to the police complaints and discipline systems to date and is committed to completing the delivery of a package of measures designed to overhaul these systems – making them more transparent, efficient and proportionate.</p> more like this
