unstar this property answer text
It is important to note that the Crown Dependencies are self-governing jurisdictions with their own legislative assemblies, administrative, fiscal and legal systems and courts of law. They have confirmed they will develop public registers of company beneficial ownership once it has been established as a global norm.

In October 2018 the UK Government launched an international beneficial ownership transparency campaign to shift global norms by encouraging and supporting more countries to implement free to access and publicly available company beneficial ownership registers by 2023. In line with this campaign, the UK Government will encourage the Crown Dependencies to voluntarily introduce measures to improve the transparency of their company ownership.

Similarly, the Overseas Territories are self-governing jurisdictions. However, in accordance with the Sanctions and Anti-Money Laundering Act 2018, the UK Government will prepare an Order in Council by the end of 2020 requiring all Overseas Territories to have fully functioning publicly accessible registers in place by the end of 2023. The UK Government will work consensually with the Overseas Territories on introducing publicly accessible registers, which includes through technical workshops.

unstar this property answer text
The UK allocation from the Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived (FEAD) was €3.94m for the 2014-20 period. FEAD operates on a funding year which differs from the standard financial year; the FEAD year runs 1st January to 31st December, and funding is allocated for the full 7-year programme. There is not a set amount allocated for each financial year, so the specific information in the question on allocation of funds for the year 2017 and 2018 is not available.

The funding information for the period 2014-20 is set out in detail at sections 1-7 in the published Explanatory Memorandum dated 23rd January 2018, reference 14699/18 COM (18)742, which is available at: http://europeanmemoranda.cabinetoffice.gov.uk/files/2019/01/EM_14699_18.pdf
more like this

unstar this property answer text
Tackling serious violence is a top priority for the Government and it is clear we must continue to step up the response to stop this violence.

The Serious Violence Strategy sets out the Government’s approach, which depends on a multi-agency approach across several sectors. The Strategy places a greater emphasis on early intervention and prevention to tackle the root causes of serious violence and provide young people with the skills and resilience to lead productive lives free from crime.

On 1 April, we launched a consultation on a new legal duty to support a public health approach to preventing and tackling serious violence. The consultation closed on 28 May, and the Government response to the consultation will be published shortly.

On 13 March, an additional £100 million to tackle serious violence was announced at the Spring Statement. £63.4 million of this funding has been allocated to 18 police forces worst affected by serious violence to support increased police operational activity, and £1.6m is being used to improve the data available on knife crime to support police activity. On 17 April, we announced that the remaining £35m of this funding will be invested in the development of Violence Reduction Units (VRUs) in areas most affected by serious violence. The VRUs will bring together a range of agencies to address the causes of violence.

The Home Secretary has also established a new £200m Youth Endowment Fund that will provide targeted intervention and support over the next 10 years for those young people most at risk of serious violence. A key purpose will be to develop the evidence base demonstrating which interventions are most effective in deterring children and young people away from crime and violence and, since it will operate for a minimum of ten years, it will have the capacity to bring successful interventions all the way through from pilot stage to deployment at scale. The Fund will ensure that this vital learning is shared and help ensure that the most effective interventions are funded.

The Youth Endowment Fund became effective from the start of April. It is independent of Government and is being run by the charity Impetus, working in partnership with the Early Intervention Foundation and Social Investment Business. The first funding round is open for applications from 28 May until 23 July.

unstar this property answer text
The Government supported the introduction of the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 (“the 2013 Act”) which provided better regulation of the metal recycling sector, including making it an offence for a scrap metal dealer to operate without a licence.

Under the 2013 Act, a scrap metal dealer who operates without a licence is guilty of an offence and liable to a fine not exceeding level 5 on the standard scale. The Sentencing Council are responsible for setting the maximum statutory fine limits and, for offences committed after 13 March 2015, the maximum fine for Level 5 is unlimited.

The Home Office collects information from police forces on the number of offences that involved the theft of metal for its scrap metal value. These data are published annually by the Office for National Statistics and can be found in the ‘Property Crime tables’ here: https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/crimeandjustice/datasets/focusonpropertycrimeappendixtables. The Government does not hold data on the number of unlicensed scrap metal sites that have been closed by local authorities.

unstar this property answer text
This Government’s priority is to focus our efforts and resources to support those who most need it, rather than invest in integration for those who may not qualify for international protection. Currently, around half of those who seek asylum in the UK are found not to need international protection. This is why support towards integration is offered at the point where someone has been recognised as a refugee.

The Government published the cross-government Integrated Communities Action plan in February 2019. In the action plan we have committed to ensuring all refugees are supported and empowered to integrate and rebuild their lives in the UK, focusing on improving support for English language, employment, mental health, and orientation to life in the UK.
more like this
