Through a multi-donor trust fund called ZIMFUND, DFID has, since 2010, supported the rehabilitation of water supply infrastructure to improve waste water treatment capacity and water supply to some areas. We continue to call for the Government of Zimbabwe to uphold the rule of law and human rights and promote free and fair elections, under the protection of the 2013 Constitution and international human rights law. It supports the poorest with tools they can use for their own development. These initiatives include:</p><ol><li>Supporting job creation and regulatory reform in high-potential sectors that provide opportunities for women and youth employment, including agriculture, services to the mining industry, tourism and household services (clean cooking, off-grid energy, on-site sanitation).</li><li>Fostering innovation and job creation through technical assistance to competitively selected businesses with the potential to create large scale jobs and grow to provincial, national and eventually regional businesses.</li><li>Increasing access to finance for growing businesses and facilitate new investment sources, including global impact investors (e.g. the ImpactCapitalAfrica initiative), local private wealth individuals (e.g. first-of-a-kind crowd-funding from Zambian residents) and state assets (e.g. engagement with Zambia’s development bank and pension funds).</li><li>Responding to high levels of urbanisation and Zambia’s geographical challenges by helping municipalities improve urban planning and supporting key Ministries and the private sector to develop more effective infrastructure solutions.</li><li>Piloting technology applications that deliver on development challenges and create and support sustainable businesses such as in rural mobility and off-grid cold chains.</li><li>Support climate smart agriculture approaches and financial inclusion for the rural and peri-urban poor.</li></ol><p> </p><p>DFID also provides direct support to create an enabling environment for citizens’ representation. The Government of Zambia has not yet declared an emergency but estimates that 1.5 million people will need emergency assistance over the next nine months. We are in contact with the Government’s Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit and with the World Food Programme about how best to distribute food supplies in the event that the Government requests support. We are exploring with the UN the feasibility of emergency cash transfers and responding to a likely increase in acute malnutrition cases. Through its Climate Smart Agriculture programme, DFID is supporting over 260,000 small-scale farmers to protect yields better from the impact of climate change. We are calling for the legitimate demands of Sudanese people to be respected and for power to be handed over to civilian leadership. Violence must not be used. This message has been firmly delivered in Sudan by our Ambassador to the Deputy Head of the TMC. The UK, alongside Troika partners Norway and the US, has called for all sides to engage in an inclusive dialogue, that leads to a swift, orderly and peaceful transition to civilian rule. On 29 May our Ambassador delivered this message to Yassir Arman of SPLM-N and encouraged all armed movements to return to Sudan and take part in the talks to agree a civilian-led transition and achieve peace. We are aware that Yasir Arman has been deported to South Sudan. We call for his immediate release and for the legitimate demands of Sudanese people to be respected. Violence must not be used, including against opponents. Sudanese people should not be faced with the threat of arbitrary detention or deportation. We consistently made clear to the former Government of Sudan our expectation that all detainees should be treated in accordance with international standards; we continue to call upon the Sudanese authorities to do so.</p><p>On 6 June, I summoned the Sudanese Ambassador to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to express the grave concerns of the United Kingdom at the use of violence against civilians by the Sudanese authorities. Our Embassy in Khartoum calls on members of the Transitional Military Council both in public and directly the steps that needed to be taken to improve the situation in Sudan, including the release of all political detainees. Both events went ahead, with the Secretary of State for the Department for International Development attending the Westminster Foundation for Democracy's annual reception on 3 July. Foreign and Commonwealth Office officials also attended the event on young political leaders in East Africa on 3 July, and the event on 5 December on women's political leadership.</p><p>All UK Visa applications are considered on their individual merits and in line with the UK Immigration Rules <a href="https://www.gov.uk/guidance/immigration-rules/immigration-rules-appendix-v-visitor-rules" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/guidance/immigration-rules/immigration-rules-appendix-v-visitor-rules</a> which set out the requirements to visit the UK. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 08/07/2019 answer text <p>The UK is the second largest bilateral donor responding to the refugee situation in Uganda, through UN agencies and international NGOs, and in coordination with the Government of Uganda. Between March 2015 and April 2019 UKAid provided extensive support that has enabled the delivery of a range of life-saving assistance and protection services. These include providing 1.2 million people with food assistance, 130,000 people with access to clean water, and 342,000 women and children with nutritional support. We have also led efforts to prevent the spread of Ebola into refugee settlements in Uganda.</p><p> </p><p>The UK’s response in Uganda will continue to protect people in crisis and invest in long-term livelihood and self-reliance options.
