	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 02/02/2024 answer text <p>The collapse of BetIndex Ltd, the operators of the novel gambling product Football Index, had a significant impact on former customers, and we recognise the frustration and anger that this has caused. As a result, the Government announced an Independent Review, conducted by Malcom Sheehan KC, which looked at how the company had been regulated and identified lessons learned for various agencies. These recommendations have since been implemented.</p><p>Following the collapse of Football Index, the then-Minister held several meetings with the Gambling Commission, and officials have worked closely with their counterparts at His Majesty’s Treasury on the role of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in this case. In our new Sport Strategy ‘Get Active’, we set an ambitious target of getting 1 million more active children and 1.25 million more active women by 2030.</p><p>We have had discussions with DfE at ministerial level on how we can continue to collectively make good progress on school sport. Our cross-government School Sport and Activity Action Plan provides the blueprint for how school sport should be delivered across the country. This includes over £600 million of investment and a clear ambition that all schools should deliver 2hrs of quality PE and equal access to sport for girls and boys, including football. The Department for Education is currently working to publish new non-statutory guidance on Physical Education before the end of March 2024 to help improve delivery.</p><p>In 2022, the Government commissioned Karen Carney to lead an independent Review of domestic women’s football. Her recommendations set out a bold vision for the women’s game. On 4 December 2023, the Government responded to the Review of Women’s Football, agreeing that all ten major recommendations should be implemented. The recommendations include a commitment to the delivery of equal access to school sport for girls and we will be convening an implementation group, which will be responsible for ensuring mutual accountability for the delivery of each recommendation.</p><p>Outside of school, we are investing over £300 million in grassroots football and multi-sport facilities across the UK by 2025 which will further support women and girls accessing football. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 05/02/2024 answer text <p>Sport and physical activity are incredibly important for our physical and mental health and this government is committed to ensuring that everyone is able to play sport and be active, including women and girls.</p><p>As part of our more than £300 million investment in multi-sport grassroots facilities, our delivery partners assess all potential projects against their ability to deliver increased participation of under-represented groups - including women and girls, ethnic minority communities and people from lower socio-economic backgrounds. Any project receiving over £25,000 in England must also have an equal access women and girls plan in place.</p><p>The Government also recently announced £25 million for the Lionesses Futures Fund - topped up with £5 million additional investment from the FA - specifically to deliver up to 30 state of the art 3G artificial pitches across the country with gold-standard provision for women and girls. Reserved peak-time slots, women and girls only evenings and priority booking for women and girls’ teams will be used to drive up opportunities to get into sport. There will also be dedicated women’s changing rooms and shower facilities and accessible toilets.</p><p>We are conducting a programme wide impact evaluation. I recently met with The FA to discuss the Code, including changes to make the reporting of diversity data mandatory for all professional clubs in the English Leagues from the 2024/2025 football season - as well as new requirements for workforce data on LGBT+ and disability. In August 2023 we published our sport strategy “Get Active” which has diversity and inclusion embedded throughout.</p><p>It is for football organisations to assess levels of diversity in the sport and the number of off-pitch roles for former black footballers, and to decide on the appropriate initiatives to increase diversity in their organisations. The Football Association recently announced they will be evolving their Leadership Diversity Code to be mandatory for all professional clubs. As such, the Regulator will focus on the financial sustainability of clubs, the financial resilience of the football pyramid, and safeguarding club heritage. We continue to monitor research, and have carefully considered the findings in this study. We recognise that there is a growing body of research that provides evidence of an association between loot box purchases and gambling activity, as well as evidence of a link with a variety of harms, including harmful gambling. However, research has not established whether a causal relationship exists, and there are a range of plausible explanations.</p><p>In order to address gaps in research around these and similar areas, we have developed and published the Video Games Research Framework to support high quality independent research into video games, including loot boxes. We are also introducing a statutory levy charged to gambling operators which will raise trusted, long-term funding for gambling research. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 08/02/2024 answer text <p>The Gambling White Paper, published in April 2023, set out the Government's intention to explore the potential for regulating types of large prize draws, which resemble society lotteries, but are not regulated as gambling products. Because these products are not regulated there is currently limited information about the sector. As stated in the response to <a href="https://questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-questions/detail/2023-11-07/152" target="_blank">PQ 152</a>, the department has also commissioned independent researchers to gather evidence about the size and nature of the prize draw sector, including its role in charity funding, risks and player protection and understanding. The research consists of an AI-powered web scrape, together with industry surveys and operator engagement.
