unstar this property answer text <p><ins class="ministerial">In total</ins> 60 employers responded to the National Minimum Wage campaign announced by HM Revenue and Customs on 29 July 2015. <del class="ministerial">Between them, these employers voluntarily disclosed arrears of £786,038 owed to 4869 workers.</del></p><p><ins class="ministerial">56 employers voluntarily disclosed arrears of £742,587 owed to 4875 workers. A further 4 employers voluntarily also disclosed arrears of £43,451 owed to 36 workers, but since these latter cases were closed after 1 April 2016, these arrears are not included in 2015/16 year end totals. </ins></p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p><del class="ministerial">60 employers responded to the National Minimum Wage campaign announced by HM Revenue and Customs on 29 July 2015. Between them, these employers voluntarily disclosed arrears of £786,038 owed to 4869 workers.</del></p><p><ins class="ministerial">In 2015/16 819 employers were issued with a Notice of Underpayment (NoU), and of this number, 814 were issued with a penalty. The combined penalties issued to these employers totalled £1,780,367.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">5 employers were issued with an NoU but no penalty because they had either gone into liquidation or had otherwise ceased trading, or because an Employment Tribunal had issued a judgment that no financial penalty should be imposed. Collectively these employers owed £57,603 to 30 workers. </ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">A further 145 employers found to have underpaid their workers were not issued with a NoU or a penalty. Collectively these employers owed £2,065,874 to 14,055 workers.</ins></p>

unstar this property answer text <p>Yes, employees are represented on the Department’s board. The Permanent Secretary is a standing member of the Departmental Board, and meets with the Departmental Trade Unions as staff representatives.</p><p> </p><p>There are several other ways in which the views of employees of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy are currently already taken into account by the Departmental Board and its supporting committees.</p><p> </p><p>The Board regularly discusses staff related matters, such as the Civil Service People Survey results which reflect the views of the Department’s employees, including views on the transition programme to create a new Department.</p><p> </p><p>The Department’s governance structure includes a People and Operations Committee, chaired by the Directors General responsible for People, Corporate Services and the transition programme. This Committee has standing representation from the HR Director and staff diversity networks as full members. Recommendations from the Committee are routinely taken to the Department’s Executive Committee for endorsement and approval.</p><p> </p><p>The composition of the Departmental Board is determined by Cabinet Office and HMT’s <em>Corporate Governance in Central Government Departments: Code of Good practice</em> (2011). Cabinet Office and HMT are currently in the process of refreshing this guidance to reflect current best practice.</p><p> </p><p>The Board also has external Non-Executive Board Members (NEBMs) as standing members. NEBMs provide external challenge and scrutiny and offer wider stakeholder views to the Board.</p><p> </p>

unstar this property answer text <p>Workers who are required to be available to perform work as and when called upon are entitled to the National Living Wage (NLW) and National Minimum Wage (NMW) for the entire shift if they are deemed to be “working”. This remains the case, even if they are permitted to sleep during that shift.</p><p> </p><p>The Government asks the Low Pay Commission (LPC) to monitor and evaluate the impact of the National Minimum and National Living Wage rates. The LPC carry out extensive research, consultation and analysis across a range of sectors to inform its wage rate recommendations.</p><p> </p><p>The LPC autumn 2016 report, summarises its consultation with business stakeholders on the impact of the NLW and NMW. unstar this property answer text <p>Workers in the UK are entitled to a minimum of 28 days paid annual leave if they work full time and a proportionate amount if they work part time. Grandparents may also be able exercise the Right to Time Off for Dependents which allows employees to take a reasonable amount of time off work to deal with certain unexpected or sudden emergencies involving a dependant and to put care arrangements in place.</p><p>The Government is developing a new national Carers Strategy, which will consider the range of issues faced by people who provide unpaid care for a relative, friend or someone close to them.</p> more like this
