star this property answer text <p>In coming to any decision on the role of tidal lagoons in the UK’s energy mix, the Government needs to consider how a programme of tidal lagoons would deliver against our priorities, as set out in the Clean Growth Strategy and the Industrial Strategy, of reducing emissions and protecting UK businesses and households from high energy costs.</p><p> </p><p>This will ensure that the response to the Hendry Review takes into account the best interests of the UK as a whole and represents value for money for the UK taxpayer and consumer.</p><p> </p><p>A Government response to the Hendry Review will be published in due course.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Department has held a number of rounds of discussions with the European Commission on legal issues related to nuclear material and safeguards as part of the first phase of EU Exit negotiations. These issues have included the future ownership of Euratom safeguards equipment, the ownership of special fissile materials, and the legal responsibility for spent fuel and radioactive waste. star this property answer text <p>In the financial year 2018/19, BEIS was allocated £185.1m of EU Exit funding. Of this total allocation £57.3m has been budgeted for staff within BEIS. These roles have now been filled and, complemented by existing staff within BEIS, will be working across all areas related to EU Exit, including deal and no deal scenarios. As negotiations continue, BEIS will continue to reassess its requirements with detailed planning for 19/20 continuing.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Operation Temperer was invoked for the first time following the terrorist incident at Manchester Arena in May this year, and then again in September following the terrorist incident at Parsons Green.</p><p> </p><p>Civil Nuclear Constabulary personnel were deployed on Operation Temperer on both occasions.</p><p> </p><p>The total number of CNC personnel deployed on Operation Temperer this year, including liaison officers, was 826. 432 officers were deployed in May, and 394 officers were deployed in September.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>My ministerial team and I have had numerous discussions with the steel sector – both as part of wider discussions and on this subject alone – since the measures were announced by the US. We and our colleagues across Government have regularly raised this issue directly with the US to make our objections clear. We have also been working closely with the EU to ensure that proportionate action is taken so that UK workers are safeguarded. We remain in regular contact with the EU and the US Administration to try to reach a positive outcome. Together with BEIS officials, I will continue to engage the UK steel and aluminium companies affected by these tariffs to provide advice and support.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>It is my assessment, based on current progress, that the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) would be in a position to deliver to international standards by March 2019 and will then move to Euratom standards as soon as possible thereafter. The speed with which the ONR is able to move from international standards to a domestic nuclear safeguards regime that dependent on negotiations with the EU including negotiations on future co-operation with Euratom on the UK’s safeguards.</p> more like this
