The variation in the hours received results from legitimate absences, such as attending court, attending appointments and illness, and occasional provider cancellations (which we reconcile against for funding). The Education Funding Agency works closely with the providers, the National Offender Management Service (NOMS) and the Youth Justice Board to resolve issues affecting the delivery of education and training.</p><p> </p><p>The shortfall in hours per learner shown at HMYOI Cookham Wood is due to cancellations by the prison, rather than by the education provider.</p><p> </p>

star this property answer text <p>As part of the Transforming Youth Custody Programme, the Government will shortly announce the outcome of a competition for new education contracts in under-18 Young Offender Institutions, which will aim to more than double the average number of hours of education provided for young people each week. The Government is taking forward reforms of Young Offender Institutions to support a stronger focus on education and reduce interruptions that impact on the number of hours provided.</p><p> </p><p>The question asked about the average number of hours of education provided per week for a young offender in young offender institutions can only be answered at disproportionate cost.</p><p> </p> more like this

In such cases, it is for the local authority or academy concerned to decide the criteria upon which pupils are entitled to this support. However, most young people have access to a discount or concession on local travel from their local transport providers, their local authority, or from their education or training provider. The £180million bursary fund is also available to support young people with the costs associated with attending education or training, and transport is the biggest single area of expenditure for which this fund is used.</p> more like this

Local authorities are expected to make reasonable decisions based on the needs of their population, the local transport infrastructure, and the resources they have available.</p><p>The Government has no plans at present to extend the home to school statutory entitlement beyond the age of 16.</p><p> </p> more like this

Member to the reply given on 10 July 2013, Official Report 297W, which provided the gross average salary of full-time regular qualified teachers in service in local authority maintained schools in cash terms and real terms for York local authority, in each March, 1997 to 2009 and November 2010 to November 2011.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>The gross average salary of full-time regular qualified teachers in service in local authority maintained schools in cash terms and real terms for York local authority, in November 2012 is £36,200 in both cash and real terms (rounded to the nearest £100). Figures cover all primary, secondary and special local authority maintained schools that were open but exclude academies. 2013 figures will be available in late July 2014.
