star this property answer text We regularly raise our concerns about the rights to freedom of expression, association and assembly with the Egyptian authorities; these rights are essential to improving the protection of Freedom of Religion or Belief in Egypt. The Egyptian constitution contains protections for Freedom of Religious Belief and it is important that these rights are respected. In particular, we welcome President Sisi's consistent calls for peaceful coexistence between Christians and Muslims in Egypt. The UK has also been working with al-Azhar University in Egypt for over ten years to help develop a new generation of religious leaders who can build dialogue across different cultures and religions, and confront extremism. The work includes English teaching, debating skills training and a postgraduate scholarship scheme. more like this

The UK has also consistently raised its concerns at the Ceasefire Task Force meeting of the International Syria Support Group, attended by the Office of the Special Envoy for Syria. The Foreign Secretary made a statement in the House of Commons on 26 February regarding the tragic situation in Eastern Ghouta. He set out what actions the British Government is taking in response to the crisis, and called upon the Asad regime to respect the ceasefire demanded by UNSC resolution 2401 and allow delivery of aid to the enclave.
more like this

We remain gravely concerned by proposals to demolish the Bedouin community of Khan al-Ahmar which the UN has said could amount to ‘forcible transfer’, in violation of International Humanitarian Law. Following the decision of the Israeli Supreme Court on 5 September, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office issued a statement with France, Germany, Spain and Italy, reiterating our call to the Israeli Government not to go ahead with its plan to demolish the village – including its school – and displace its residents. We will continue to raise concerns with the Israeli authorities as opportunities arise.
more like this

star this property answer text
Iran's human rights record continues to be of serious concern to the UK, and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has designated it as one of its Human Rights Priority Countries. The continued restrictions on freedoms of expression, religion and belief are deeply worrying, as is the discrimination against religious and ethnic minorities. While some religious minorities are formally protected in the constitution, the reality is that many non-Muslims face discrimination. Despite constitutional recognition, the persecution of Christians has been continuous, systemic, and institutionalised, and we are particularly concerned by the continuing systematic discrimination, harassment and targeting of members of the Baha'i faith. We regularly raise the treatment of religious and ethnic minorities in Iran with the Iranian Government, and we continue to take action with the international community to press Iran to improve its poor record on all human rights issues.
more like this
