answer text <p>We are investing £2.5 billion over six years on capital flood defences (including major flood defences) up until 2021.</p><p> </p><p>In the Autumn Statement 2015 we confirmed that we would protect the flood asset maintenance budget (this includes funding for riverbank maintenance), in real terms, until the end of the Parliament. We also stated that we would find 10% efficiencies in maintenance by the end of the Parliament and reinvest that money in more maintenance. In the Budget 2016 we announced that we would spend an extra £40 million per year on maintenance until the end of the Parliament. These commitments mean that we are spending over £1 billion on maintenance this Parliament. This is an increase of 29% above spending on maintenance in the previous Parliament.</p><p> </p><p>We have assessed that this spending achieves an optimal balance between capital and maintenance spending.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Environment Agency does not develop policy, however, operational staff throughout the Environment Agency routinely give advice and guidance to operators on end of waste matters. The Environment Agency also has a Definition of Waste team, consisting of four staff members, with specific expertise on end of waste alongside other responsibilities in waste regulation.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>There are other non-operational and legal experts in the Environment Agency who provide advice on end of waste matters as part of their wider responsibilities.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>The Environment Agency has developed several different mechanisms to support businesses in determining whether products are waste or not. These include end of waste frameworks (Quality Protocols) for thirteen different waste streams, a self-assessment web tool ‘IsItWaste’, and published data on comparator non-waste materials. All support tools can be found on the ‘<a href="https://www.gov.uk/guidance/turn-your-waste-into-a-new-non-waste-product-or-material" target="_blank">turn your waste into a new non-waste product</a> or material’ page on GOV.UK. Defra has also produced guidance on the legal definition of waste, also available on GOV.UK.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Businesses seeking support on achieving end of waste status for their products can also contact their local Environment Agency office for further advice and guidance.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>Defra undertook a review of implementation of the EU Nature Directives, published in March 2012, which also fed into the Law Commission’s ongoing review of wildlife legislation at that time. The Law Commission published its recommendations on 10 November 2015, to which the Government responded on 22 November 2016.</p><p> </p><p>The Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006 is currently subject to post-legislative scrutiny. Defra’s memorandum provides a preliminary assessment of the Act, which has been submitted to the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee. answer text <p>Agriculture and land management is key to the environment and the maintenance and improvement of our iconic landscapes. Our policy framework will respect the work of farmers and support environmental goods.</p><p> </p><p>Continued support is important, and so is reform. We need to take the opportunity that being outside the Common Agricultural Policy will give us to use public money to reward environmentally responsible land use.</p><p> </p><p>We have no intention of weakening our current environmental protections.
