star this property answer text <p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The UK works closely with the French authorities on matters of border security and cross border criminality to maintain the integrity of our joint border controls. <br><br>The Home Office and Border Force regularly meet the French at Ministerial, official and operational level to enhance our effectiveness in tackling irregular migration and organised immigration crime, including between Calais and Dover.</p><p> </p><p>Recent collaboration has resulted in a grant of £2 million from the UK to replace and upgrade the Passive Millimetre Wave Imaging (PMMWI) equipment currently deployed in the ports of Calais and Coquelles.</p><p>In respect of the UK response to increase our impact on Organised Immigration Crime in France (especially northern France) Border Force have established a UK Task Force (Op Groundbreaker) and assembled Intelligence /Investigation Officers from Immigration Enforcement, Border Force, National Crime Agency and Kent Police. The Task Force is able to provide a robust response to OIC and work closely with French colleagues in Police Aux Frontiéres (PAF) nationally and in particular with OCRIEST (Office Central de Répression de l'Immigration Irrégulière et de l'Emploi d'Etrangers sans Titre - a specialist PAF Unit dedicated to tackling organised crime groups in France and abroad).</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p>

star this property answer text <p>Legislation to end the open display of tobacco products in shops has been made and will come into force for all shops on 6 April 2015.</p><p> </p><p>Standardised packaging of tobacco products is a policy that is still under consideration by the Government. star this property answer text <p>Tobacco is treated uniquely in regulatory terms, because it is a uniquely harmful consumer good. All smoking is addictive and harmful to health. Around half of all regular smokers are eventually killed by a smoking-related illness, and on average, smokers who die from a smoking-related illness lose around 16 years of life. Smoking is the primary cause of preventable morbidity and premature death, accounting for almost 80,000 deaths in England each year, some 18% of all deaths of adults aged 35 and over.</p><p> </p><p>Regulatory controls on tobacco are commensurate with the potential harm to the health of smokers and others that it can cause. Over the past decade in particular, tobacco has become increasingly regulated and controlled as further evidence about the harm to health from smoking has emerged. Tobacco, therefore, is subject to greater levels of regulation than other consumer products.</p> more like this
