Several steps are in place to support the Trust, including monthly oversight meetings between NHS Improvement’s senior leadership team and the Trust’s chief executive team to review performance; provision of NHS Improvement staff for on-site support to review long-stay patients and discharge those who are medically fit to be discharged; and work with mental health providers and the London Ambulance Service to support appropriate placement of mental health patients as well as improve patient handover performance. The Trust also received £500,000 of capital to develop and open a crisis café at the University Hospital Lewisham site, to help prevent avoidable mental health attendances at A&amp;E.</p><p>There are multiple actions underway to support reductions in waiting times for patients in London Emergency Departments. The London Urgent and Emergency Care programme and the Emergency Care Intensive Support Team provide dedicated expertise and support to several trusts<ins class="ministerial"><sup>1</sup></ins>. It is for them to work with their staff, accredited local security management specialists, their local Police and Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to put in place policies and procedures aimed at reducing the likelihood of abusive and violent conduct while ensuring appropriate action is taken, including criminal or administrative sanctions, against perpetrators deliberately committing such acts.</p><p> </p><p>The new NHS Violence Reduction Strategy developed by the NHS will help ambulance services tackle abusive and violent conduct against their staff. The Strategy includes training in de-escalation techniques, continuing professional development of security staff, improving the safety of working environments, ensuring all organisations are clear about their responsibilities, a publicity campaign and work with the Police and CPS to ensure appropriate use is made of existing legislation and the new Assault on Emergency Workers (Offences) Act 2018. In preparing the Strategy, there was an event with ambulance providers and work will start soon for a plan to tackle abusive and violent conduct against ambulance staff.</p><p> </p><p>Two ambulance services are assessing how body cameras could be used to help protect paramedics. The GMC are clear that all doctors should have a good understanding of a wide range of mental and physical health conditions, including those related to nutrition and eating disorders. The outcome requirements set by the GMC for all stages of United Kingdom medical education and training require medical students and doctors in training to be able to identify and act where adults and children are vulnerable. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 23/11/2018 answer text <p>It is the responsibility of the General Medical Council and the Nursing and Midwifery Council, in setting the outcomes that medical and nursing students need to achieve through their training, to ensure it is reflective of the knowledge and experience needed to support and advise the patients they see.</p><p> </p><p>Health Education England (HEE) has responsibility for ensuring the NHS in England has the workforce it requires in the right numbers, in the right place and with the right skills. HEE, together with regulators and Royal Colleges, ensures undergraduate and post graduate curriculum meets the needs of all patients.</p><p> </p><p>HEE are also working with stakeholders to support the awareness raising of the mental health needs of the LGBT community. Therefore, paramedic training was not included in the scope of the reforms implemented in 2017.
