The new programmes of study for computing, which will be taught in maintained schools from September 2014, have a much greater emphasis on computer science. For example, pupils at key stage 1 will be taught to create and debug simple programs and key stage 3 pupils will be taught to use two or more programming languages.</p><p>We also working with exam boards and sector experts to review the computer science GCSE and A level so that they reflect and build upon the changes made to the curriculum. The inclusion of computer science in the English Baccalaureate will provide further encouragement for pupils to take up the subject at GCSE level. We are also providing funding for several projects to help teachers acquire the necessary subject knowledge and skills to teach the new computing curriculum.</p><p>We are funding the British Computer Society to build a network of 400 ‘Master Teachers', create online teach-yourself resources and deliver 800 in-school workshops to help primary school teachers improve their subject knowledge. Parents that are using childcare vouchers will be able to continue doing so, while they work for the same employer and their employer continues to offer them.</p><p> </p><p>Universal Credit claimants are unable to receive help with childcare costs through Universal Credit at the same time as using childcare vouchers.</p><p> </p><p>The government has increased the support available to parents on Universal Credit, who can now get up to 85% of their childcare costs paid. However, if a Universal Credit or tax credit claimant requires more childcare than their vouchers pay for, they can claim any additional amounts through Universal Credit or tax credits, provided they meet the eligibility conditions and can provide evidence of payments.</p><p> </p><p>The government has increased the support for working parents on Universal Credit who can now get up to 85% of their childcare costs paid. Parents on tax credits get up to 70% of their childcare costs paid. This means the majority of Universal Credit and tax credits claimants are better off getting help through these schemes than through the childcare voucher scheme.</p><p>Many Universal Credit and tax credits claimants aren’t able to get childcare vouchers as the majority of schemes are run through salary sacrifice. HMRC is satisfied that its process does not breach the Data Protection Act in any way.</p><p>The award notice and other written products sent to tax credits claimants simply show the children on the claim and the number of children for whom Child Tax Credit is being paid.</p><p>For example, in an award where the individual element of the Child Tax Credit is being paid for three children (where one child was born on or after 6 April 2017 and qualifies for an exception) the award notice will show all three children on the claim, and that HMRC is paying for all three children. This represents £11 million of business for British dairy farmers.</p><p>We are working with all central Departments to ensure their food and catering contracts comply with the balanced scorecard approach.</p><p>The Ministry of Justice recently launched a tender for supplying food to prisons, worth £500m, which requires bids to use the balanced scorecard. From April this year all 30 million portions of UHT milk supplied to prisons each year is 100% British milk. Positive effects on pedagogy cited within the studies considered include: improvemements to lessons and homework, characterised by more creative and engaging tasks; more and better quality feedback to pupils; and improvements in monitoring and assessment.</p><p>The Department will continue to review international research in this area, such as that being undertaken by the Creative Classroom project of the European Schoolnet organisation.
