	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 19/11/2018 answer text <p>Following the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s Special Report on 1.5 degrees, published in October, we commissioned advice from our independent advisers, the Committee on Climate Change (CCC), on its long-term emissions reduction targets, including on the setting of a net zero target. This commission asks for evidence from the CCC on how reductions might be delivered in key sectors of the economy and the expected costs and benefits of different scenarios.</p><p> </p><p>The Committee will also publish a report on aviation in Spring 2019. As set out in the Committee’s recent progress report, this will include consideration of the potential to reduce aviation emissions over the period to 2050 and beyond.</p><p> </p><p>The Government will consider carefully the Committee’s advice on both these issues when it is received. The letter requesting the CCC’s advice is available <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/uk-climate-targets-request-for-advice-from-the-committee-on-climate-change" target="_blank">here</a>.</p><p> </p><p>We will consider the Committee’s evidence-based advice carefully when it is received in Spring 2019. As a result of our existing policies, including carbon pricing and our support for renewables, we have already made great headway in reducing our reliance on coal, which fell from 39% of electricity in 2012 to 5% in 2018. A first phase of funding was offered to thirteen LEPs in March 2017, and funding was offered to the remaining 25 LEPs in September 2017.</p><p>BEIS is enabling local areas to develop energy strategies, linked with the forthcoming Local Industrial Strategies, to reflect the needs, opportunities and barriers within the local area. Some LEP areas have chosen to work together on a joint strategy. Strategies are expected to consider the full range of energy opportunities and challenges in the local area, including the potential for renewable heat and power generation, demand side management and transport infrastructure.</p><p>No energy strategies have been completed yet. Coal to biomass conversions are a transitional technology in the decarbonisation of electricity, with all support under the renewables obligation and contracts for difference (CfD) schemes ending in 2027. We are improving the route to market for renewable technologies such as offshore wind by making up to £557m available for further CfD auctions, and working with industry to develop an ambitious Sector Deal for offshore wind which could result in 10 gigawatts of new capacity. The Department for International Trade (DIT) represented the UK during this review and they have also recently conducted a Call for Evidence to identify UK interest in existing EU trade remedy measures. In 2013/14 and 2014/15, UK Trade &amp; Investment trialled a number of initiatives with the British Chambers of Commerce, including co-ordinating UK-end activity and accrediting the overseas delivery partners.</p><p> </p><p>Following a review in November 2014, it was agreed that responsibility for co-ordinating the UK-end activity would be shifted from the British Chambers of Commerce to UK Trade and Investment’s regional delivery contracts with effect from April 2015. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 19/04/2017 answer text <p>The Government wants to make sure that the cost of energy is affordable, fair and internationally competitive, both for businesses and households.</p><p>The recent Committee on Climate Change report on the impact of energy policies on consumers’ energy bills found that energy efficiency policies bring down bills and outweigh the cost of other energy and climate change policies for households.</p><p>The Industrial Strategy Green Paper, published in January 2017, announced our intention to commission a review to look at the cost of energy and the opportunities to reduce the cost of achieving our decarbonisation goals in the power and industrial sectors.</p><p>The latest BEIS published international energy price comparison statistics show that medium-sized domestic electricity prices including taxes rose in most other EU15 countries in 2016 compared to 2015. The UK electricity price, however, fell over the same period. Prices are expressed in pounds sterling and the relative price increase across the rest of the EU15 is mainly due to pound/euro exchange rate changes.</p><p>Over the same period, electricity prices for industrial users increased across most EU15 countries but were broadly unchanged in the UK.
