This allows police forces to record online instances of abuse and other crimes such as stalking, harassment, sexual offences and others. These offences could have taken place solely online, or had an online element to them. These data are currently still in development but will be published in due course. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/07/2014 answer text <p>The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has 17 corporate twitter accounts, including a central @foreignoffice account. The other accounts are for support to British nationals overseas, work on forced marriage, communications in Arabic and Urdu, and a range of other priorities such as recruitment, ending sexual violence in conflict and our policy on Europe. Six Ministers and the Permanent Under Secretary are also on twitter in an official capacity, as well as most of our 270 posts overseas, many of our Ambassadors and some other senior officials. The FCO does not spend anything on its Twitter accounts.</p><p>The FCO runs a range of other social media accounts such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Weibo, Flickr, Google+, YouTube but does not pay for any of these.</p><p>The FCO occasionally uses paid-for advertising on its social media channels to promote key content. Any such advertising is subject to Cabinet Office marketing and advertising spending controls and is cleared in line with Cabinet Office procedures. It is not possible to breakdown exact spending, although details of overall exemptions to marketing and advertising controls are available on GOV.UK. https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/exceptions-data</p><p>One FCO official in London maintains the main Foreign Office corporate social media accounts. Staff from across the FCO contribute to other social media channels. For example, a number of staff in our Consular team contribute to the @FCOTravel twitter account as part of our customer service to British Nationals, and staff at posts contribute to overseas channels. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/09/2016 answer text <p>We expect social media companies, and internet platforms, to have robust processes in place and to act promptly when abuse is reported; including acting quickly to removing inappropriate content, and where appropriate, suspending or terminating the accounts of those breaching the rules in place.</p><p>We are working with the UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS) to keep children and young people safe online. UKCCIS brings together industry, law enforcement, academia, charities and parenting groups to help to keep children and young people safe online. UKCCIS is co-chaired by Ministers from Department for Education, Home Office and Department for Culture Media and Sport.</p><p>In December 2015 we published guidance to encourage responsible practice from industry, and ensure children using their services are able to do so in a safe and protected way.</p><p>The Criminal Justice Act 2015 strengthened two existing communications offences: section 1 of the Malicious Communications Act 1988, and section 127 of the Communications Act 2003 which can now be used to prosecute misuse of social media. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/02/2015 answer text <p>Digital and social media are an effective and low-cost way of communicating with the public.</p><p> </p><p>This Government has amended the law to strengthen the rights of the press and public to report and film council meetings using digital and social media. In August 2014, we published a plain English guide to help councils, the press and the public with these new rights.</p><p> </p><p>We made clear that there is no prohibition on councillors from tweeting and blogging at meetings, and they should be able to do so provided it is not disruptive and does not detract from the proper conduct of the meeting.</p><p> </p><p>Local authorities should have regard to the local government Publicity Code, which seeks to prevent the misuse of taxpayer-funded resources, including social media.</p><p> </p><p>Notwithstanding, last June, Ministers challenged and criticised guidance to parish councils issued by the National Association of Local Councils (NALC) that sought to prevent elected councillors from issuing media comments without prior written permission of the council. NALC has now produced a new Media Policy Example that takes into account the new national rules on filming and recording at parish and town council meetings.</p><p> </p><p>In December, we invited bids for local pilots to bring statutory notices into the 21<sup>st</sup> Century.
