This included a number of schemes improving many of the strategic road links on the Reading-Gatwick road corridor.</p><p> </p><p>At Budget 2018, the Chancellor announced that the National Roads Fund will be £28.8 billion from 2020-2025. The government is providing up to £50 million of guaranteed future payments over the next thirty years to those who plant qualifying woodland, to purchase carbon credits as trees grow and sequester carbon. Those carbon credits could then be sold, reducing the overall cost to taxpayers. The government will meet this guarantee at future spending reviews. The essential improvement works are to begin in November of this year to strengthen the cliffs and protect the sea wall at Dawlish.
