	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/06/2017 answer text <p>From the early stages of the development and rollout of Universal Credit we have collaborated closely with Scottish Government, Local Authorities and stakeholders. Our roll out so far includes a mixture of rural and urban sites to help us better understand the complex requirements that a reform of this scale entails. We have noted concerns and unique circumstances in Scotland and have taken action to ensure that they are accommodated. We are also working closely with Scottish Government to plan for implementation of the UC flexibilities devolved to Scotland in the Scotland Act 2016.</p><p> </p><p>Universal Credit is available in every jobcentre in Scotland to all new claims from single jobseekers. We are expanding the UC full service and nine jobcentres are taking claims for all claimant types.</p><p> </p><p>Some of the lessons we have learned include the need for better communications with landlords and a smoother process for gathering information to make the first claim. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 24/11/2017 answer text <p>The Universal Credit Scottish Flexibilities are a matter for the Scottish Government as part of the Scotland Act 2016 and this is their policy.</p><p>The Universal Credit Scottish Flexibilities, now also known as “Universal Credit Scottish choices”, have been made available from 4 October 2017 to people living in Scotland making a new Universal Credit claim, in areas where the full service is available. They allow for claimants to choose to be paid twice monthly, effectively delaying their full benefit payment by 15 days, and to choose to have the relevant housing costs in their award paid to their landlord. New claimants from 4th October have the ability to request the Scottish Choices at any point in their claim.</p><p>Claimants retain the ability to have their payments made monthly and keep control of their finances by paying their landlord themselves which we believe more effectively mirrors work, and supports claimants back into work.</p><p>It is the responsibility of the Scottish government to publicise the payment options for Universal Credit in Scotland.</p><p>Nationally, Universal Credit allows where appropriate for rent to be paid direct to landlords and for payments to be split, or for payments to be made more frequently each month.</p> answering member constituency East Hampshire answering member printed Damian Hinds grouped question UIN 113498 113501 question first answered 24/11/2017 14:57:11 answering member 3969 label Biography information for Damian Hinds
