star this property answer text
As at 31 January 2019, there were 200 commitments in England entered into the Apprenticeship Service, where the transfer of funds between apprenticeship service accounts has been approved (a commitment is where a potential apprentice, who is expected to go on to start an apprenticeship, has been recorded with the Apprenticeship Service). Of these transferred commitments as at 31 January 2019, there were 130 transferred commitments that had materialised into apprenticeship starts. Further statistics can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/apprenticeship-and-levy-statistics-february-2019.

Information on companies transferring apprenticeship levy funds in each region of England is not available in the format requested. Many levy-paying employers are headquartered in one region but operate across the country meaning that we cannot attribute levy-funds transferred in individual locations. Individual employers have control of the expenditure (and transfer) of apprenticeship levy funds based on their current and future skills needs.

It should be noted that, from April this year, levy-paying employers can transfer 25% of their levy funds to other employers.

Some school leavers are not yet ready for that step, and the department is developing a high quality offer for all young people including a transition offer for those who have the potential to study for a T level but who are not yet ready to do so.

The transition offer will be a flexible programme with a strong focus on mathematics and English and all suggestions are welcome for what could be included in the programme. The department has recently sought views through the public consultation on the implementation of T levels, including what other support should be considered as part of the programme, more details will be published in the spring.
more like this

star this property answer text
We are working with employers to offer more apprenticeship opportunities - helping them to plan their future programmes including through the account management of over 1,000 of the largest levy-paying employers. We have recently announced initial awards totalling around £485 million to hundreds of providers across the country to provide apprenticeship training to non-levy paying employers.

We are using every opportunity to communicate the benefits of apprenticeships and encouraging the take up. A new phase of our communications campaign started on 26 January 2018, to encourage employers to offer apprenticeship opportunities and to promote these to potential apprentices. This will build on the National Apprenticeship Service’s ongoing engagement and communications activity to increase awareness and promote the benefits of apprenticeships among employers and learners.

Apprenticeships are open to individuals and employers across the country, and we are investing in the whole of England by doubling funding for apprenticeships to £2.45 billion by 2019-20 – twice what was spent in 2010-11 – and giving employers more power than ever before to design apprenticeship training that meets their needs.
