unstar this property answer text <p>The Airports Commission shortlisted three airport expansion schemes, two at Heathrow and one at Gatwick. The Government accepted the Commission’s shortlist in December 2015, and has since been undertaking a programme of further work, including on mitigation, to support a decision on a preferred scheme. We are carefully considering the evidence in relation to all three schemes, including the Airports Commission’s comprehensive work and the recommendations in the Environmental Audit Committee’s interim report.</p> more like this

It is vitally important that we get this decision right.</p><p> </p><p>The Government is not providing a running commentary on this work and it would not be appropriate to opine on the Commission’s scheme-specific recommendations before an announcement on its preference.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The Airports Commission undertook a range of detailed assessments to support its Final Report published in July 2015. The analysis included a detailed assessment of transport network impacts for each of the Commission’s three short-listed options.</p><p> </p><p>Copies of the Commission’s Surface Access: Dynamic Modelling Reports, and, Strategic and Local Roads Study for both the Heathrow Northwest Runway and the Heathrow Extended Northern Runway schemes and Gatwick Second Runway; along with a Freight Impacts Study, Resilience Study and a Demand Management Study were published alongside its Final Report, and are available from the Commission website at the following link:</p><p><a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/airports-commission-final-report-surface-access" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/airports-commission-final-report-surface-access</a></p><p> </p><p>The Government will carefully consider all the evidence set out when making a decision on the location of additional runway capacity.</p>

Enhanced access to international connectivity will be important in supporting regional economic growth. In addition, for regions where domestic air connections to London remain crucial, such as Scotland, expansion will create space for increased frequencies and new links.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The Government’s latest estimate, published on 2 February, was that a new runway at Heathrow will deliver benefits to passengers and the wider UK economy of up to £61 billion.</p><p> </p><p>Regions across the country should benefit from new destinations, extra seats and increased frequency of service created by increased capacity at Heathrow. Heathrow expansion is also expected to deliver tens of thousands of additional local jobs by 2030, and while it is not possible to precisely quantify the impacts on regional jobs and GDP, expanding airport capacity in the South East will support economic growth in the UK’s regions.</p><p> </p><p>Nevertheless, as part of the consultation on the draft Airports National Policy Statement (NPS) the government was clear that further work was underway to update the evidence base, including revised aviation demand forecasts. The Secretary of State for Transport announced on 7 September that there is a need to conduct a short period of further consultation to allow this updated evidence to be taken into account.</p><p> </p>
