unstar this property answer text <p>We are already providing support to parents of two-year-olds. Disadvantaged two-year-olds in England are eligible for 15 hours a week of free early education and childcare. The programme is aimed at narrowing the educational gap between children in particular financial or other complex circumstances and their peers.</p><p> </p><p>The eligibility criteria for the programme can be found at:</p><p> </p><p><a href="https://www.gov.uk/help-with-childcare-costs/free-childcare-and-education-for-2-to-4-year-olds" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/help-with-childcare-costs/free-childcare-and-education-for-2-to-4-year-olds</a></p><p> </p><p>For parents who fall outside these criteria, in 2017, the government is introducing Tax-Free Childcare, which could save them up to £2,000 per child or up to £4,000 if their child is disabled for children aged under 12 (or 17 for children with special educational needs or disabilities).</p><p> </p><p>Parents who qualify for Universal Credit can receive the childcare element which provides direct support with up to 85% of eligible costs as of April 2016.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p>

unstar this property answer text <p>Local authorities have a duty to ensure there are sufficient centres to meet local need; and a duty to consult where changes are planned to local children’s centre provision.</p><p> </p><p>In 2010 there were 3,615 children’s centres[1]. On 30 September 2016, local authorities listed as being in operation 3,265 main children’s centres and sites open to families and children providing children's centre services as part of a network.</p><p> </p><p>Children’s centre records are maintained by local authorities and are made publicly available via the department’s “EduBase portal” at: <a href="http://www.education.gov.uk/edubase/home.xhtml" target="_blank">http://www.education.gov.uk/edubase/home.xhtml</a></p><p> </p><p>[1] The total number of children’s centres in 2010 was originally reported as 3,631. However, a data-cleansing exercise carried out by the department in 2013 found that 15 of the children’s centres local authorities had entered onto the children’s centre database did not subsequently open and that there was one duplicate record on the database. This information allows us to estimate the number of children's centres providing full day care provision on site. Estimates from the 2013 Childcare and Early Years Providers survey show that in 2010 the number of children's centres providing on-site full day care was 800 and that in 2013 this figure was 450. Results of the 2013 survey suggest that increases in the broader supply of full day care provision may have impacted on demand for provision specifically based in children's centres. The survey estimates that between 2010 and 2013 the number of full day care providers increased from 16,700 to 17,900.</p><p>[1] Figures for 2010 begin from April 2010. We are considering the future direction for children’s centres and will provide further detail in due course, including how stakeholders and members of the public can contribute.</p><p> </p><p>The requirement for Ofsted to undertake the inspections of Sure Start children’s centres is currently suspended pending the consideration of their future direction as mentioned above. The Secretary of State has not had any recent discussions with Ofsted on the inspection of children’s centres.</p> more like this
