	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/05/2018 answer text <p><ins class="ministerial">We are developing 15 prestigious technical routes that will set a clear pathway through apprenticeships and new flagship T level programmes to skilled employment for young people.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">High quality apprenticeships offer an excellent means of progression for many young people leaving education, giving them the skills valued by employers.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">T levels are classroom based, level 3 study programmes and will provide a distinctive and rigorous technical alternative to A levels. A substantial, high-quality industry placement will be an essential part of each T level giving students the chance to put into practice the technical skills they have learned in the classroom.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">Training and qualifications within the technical education routes are being designed and developed by employers - so that students can be confident they are getting the skills that employers need.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">The reformed technical routes will ensure we unlock all the talents of young people across the country, no matter where they come from, and support them into strong, rewarding jobs and careers.</ins></p><p> </p><p><del class="ministerial">We are developing 15 prestigious technical routes to set a clear pathway through apprenticeships and new flagship T levels to skilled employment for young people.</del></p><p><br /><del class="ministerial">We are working with employers to design the content for T levels, which will provide in future a distinctive and rigorous technical alternative to A levels.</del></p><p><br /><del class="ministerial">But apprenticeships must be of high quality. I am pleased that the move from the old frameworks to the new standards has seen the proportion of these apprenticeships in the number of all starts grow from 3% to 36% since last year.</del></p><p><br /><del class="ministerial">Traineeships for those most distant from the labour market are yielding good results. With two thirds progessing to positive destinations and reporting high levels of satifaction (82%). This can be broken down into the following groups in the attached table, which also shows the proportion against the total number of employees.</p><p>Regarding the proportion of apprentices employed at the Institute for Apprenticeships, this is a matter for the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education. I have asked the Chief Executive, Sir Gerry Berragan, to write to the hon. The strategy sets out a long term plan to build a world class careers system that will help young people and adults choose the career that’s right for them.</p><p> </p><p>All secondary schools will be expected to provide pupils with at least one meaningful interaction with businesses every year. To help schools do this, The Careers &amp; Enterprise Company will expand their network of Enterprise Advisers – senior volunteers from business – so that by 2020 all secondary schools and colleges have access to an Enterprise Adviser.</p><p>To target more support on those who need it most, including those from deprived communities, The Careers &amp; Enterprise Company will launch a new investment fund of £5 million. This will help disadvantaged pupils to get the additional support they need to prepare for work, including opportunities for mentoring and guidance.</p><p> </p><p>The Careers &amp; Enterprise Company will also triple the number of cornerstone employers to over 150 in the next two years. These cornerstone employers have made clear commitments to working with schools and colleges, including in Opportunity Areas. That is why we are investing money into improving skills provision and giving young people real choice, including an additional £500 million per year investment in England’s technical education system.</p><p> </p><p>We want to improve the quality and coverage of careers advice for young people in schools and colleges. We will set out our plans in a comprehensive careers strategy later this year.</p><p> </p><p>We set up the Careers &amp; Enterprise Company (CEC) in 2014 to connect employers with schools and colleges and improve opportunities for young people to learn about work. The CEC has made good progress in delivering its programmes. This can be found here <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/statistics-neet" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/statistics-neet</a>. These estimates cannot be disaggregated to lower level geographies.</p><p>The Department for Education also publishes estimates for England and the English regions based on quarterly Labour Force Survey (LFS) data. However, due to sample size limitations in the LFS data, it is not possible to produce reliable estimates at unitary authority or constituency level.</p><p>Local authority level NEET estimates for England are published annually as transparency data from the department’s National Client Caseload Information System (NCCIS). 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/06/2019 answer text <p>The government has raised the participation age to ensure that all young people are supported to continue their education until at least age 18. We have invested nearly £7 billion during academic year 2018/19 to ensure there is a place in education or training for every 16 to 19 year old.</p><p>Local authorities have a statutory duty to identify and track the participation of 16 and 17 year olds, supporting those who are not participating to do so and making sure that there is sufficient, suitable education and training provision to meet their needs. The September Guarantee places a further duty on local authorities to ensure that all year 11 pupils (and year 12 pupils on 1-year courses) receive an offer of a place in education/training for the following September. It aims to ensure that all young people, regardless of what they achieved in school, understand that there are opportunities that will help them to progress, and to ensure that they get the advice and support they need to find a suitable place.</p><p>A range of provision is available for young people aged 16 to 24 to equip them with the skills and experience they need to progress. This includes traineeships which provide unemployed young people with employability training, work experience and English and maths, and supported internships which offer tailored support for young people aged 16 to 25 who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. In addition, young people aged 19 to 23 are funded to gain a first full level 2 or 3 qualification; English and maths training is funded for young people who have not achieved a level 2 standard; and a range of employability training is available to support young people who are unemployed into work.</p><p>We are creating further opportunities for young people through the introduction of T levels from September 2020, new technical education courses designed by employers which will give young people a high-quality alternative to A levels. Alongside this, the changes we have made to apprenticeships are giving young people the opportunity to get the high-quality training they need for a rewarding career in a skilled profession.</p><p>The Careers &amp; Enterprise Company has taken on a more ambitious role by coordinating support for schools and colleges across all the Gatsby Benchmarks.
