Where parents have missed out on Tax-Free Childcare payments HMRC will pay compensation to reimburse them. As at 11 January 2018, the average payment made to a parent who had received a payment in lieu of missed Tax-Free Childcare payments was £274. HMRC also makes redress payments to recompense parents for inconvenience and expenses such as telephone calls to the helpline. In England, the new levy revenue will be invested in giving school-aged children a brighter and healthier future. Fewer customers see error screens and the vast majority of customers receive an eligibility response within five working days, if not instantly.
