star this property answer text <p /> <p>The Ministry of Justice does not collect data on the types of cases referred to coroners. However, it does collect data on the conclusions recorded at inquests.</p><p> </p><p>Coroners cannot by law investigate cases in which a child has not lived independently of its mother. They can open an investigation if there is any doubt over whether the child has lived independently, once they have received a report of a death. They can also investigate perinatal deaths which occur in the six days following birth. The Chief Coroner, HHJ Peter Thornton QC, is considering actions to improve consistency and good practice in relation to neonatal deaths.</p><p> </p><p>The table below sets out the number of inquest conclusions which were recorded as stillbirths. We are aware of the Employment Appeal Tribunal judgment in the case of Tirkey v Chandok which opens the possibility that a legal remedy for claims of caste-associated discrimination already exists under current legislation, namely the ethnic origins element of Section 9 of the Equality Act 2010. We are considering the implications of the judgment for discrimination law and specifically for the duty on caste in Section 9 (5) of the Act.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The evaluation of the three-year pilot will consider the extent to which the fund removed barriers to disabled people’s participation in public life. The independent Administrator of the Fund is preparing a report with data on demand, the different types of support that applicants required, and the extent to which funding helped them compete on level terms with other candidates. Applicants have been invited to complete an online survey, the results of which are being collated. The report will be completed this month, when final claims have been settled for candidates who stood in the May 2015 General Election and Local Authority elections.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Coroners must investigate all deaths which are sudden, unnatural, violent, or of unknown cause. This can include deaths of newborn babies such as in the tragic case of Clara Tully. Coroners cannot by law investigate cases in which a child has not lived independently of its mother, such as stillbirths. They can, however, open an investigation if there is any doubt over whether there was independent life, once they have received a report of the case.
