	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/04/2019 answer text <p>The Department fully understands that maintaining access to cancer medication is vitally important to many people in this country.</p><p> </p><p>There is already a team within the Department that deals with medicine supply issues arising both in the community and hospitals. We have well established procedures to deal with medicine shortages, from whatever cause, and work closely with the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, the pharmaceutical industry, NHS England and others operating in the supply chain to help prevent shortages and to ensure that the risks to patients are minimised when they do arise.</p><p> </p><p>If we are aware of issues with cancer medications we work with national clinical experts to advise on management plans and ensure that appropriate information is provided to the National Health Service and specialist patient groups.</p> answering member constituency South Ribble answering member printed Seema Kennedy question first answered 15/04/2019 12:58:08 answering member 4455 label Biography information for Seema Kennedy

	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/04/2019 answer text <p>The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is the independent body that provides guidance on the prevention and treatment of ill health and the promotion of good health and social care. Through its technology appraisal and highly specialised technologies programmes, NICE plays an important role in ensuring that patients are able to benefit from effective new treatments, including treatments for small numbers of patients. NICE has recommended a number of drugs for small patient populations through these programmes that are now routinely funded by the National Health Service for eligible patients.</p><p> </p><p>NICE periodically reviews its methods and processes to ensure that they keep pace with developments in science and healthcare. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 25/04/2019 answer text <p>Through its technology appraisal programme, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) makes recommendations for the National Health Service on whether drugs and other treatments represent an effective use of NHS resources. NHS England is legally required to fund cancer drugs recommended in NICE technology appraisal guidance.</p><p>The Government wants patients with cancer to be able to benefit from rapid access to effective new drugs, including for maintenance treatment. Under arrangements introduced in 2016, NICE now develops technology appraisal guidance for the NHS on all new cancer drugs. Wherever possible, NICE aims to issue draft guidance on new cancer drugs before licensing and to publish final guidance within 90 days of licensing.</p><p>Funding is available through the Cancer Drugs Fund from the point at which NICE draft recommendations are published, or if the drug is not currently licensed, from the point of licensing. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/04/2019 answer text <p>The Department has not discussed with the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) the prescription of medicinal cannabis oil for patients with cerebral palsy and arthritis.</p><p> </p><p>NICE is the independent expert body that develops authoritative, evidence-based guidance for the National Health Service on whether drugs and other treatments represent a clinically and cost effective use of NHS resources. NICE is developing guidance on the prescribing of cannabis-based medicinal products by October 2019. It will be based on the best available international evidence and will have been produced using NICE’s world-renowned process for delivering such guidance.</p><p> </p><p>Following a public consultation on the draft scope, the guidance will focus on the use of cannabis-based products in the treatment of chronic pain, intractable nausea and vomiting, spasticity and severe treatment-resistant epilepsy, conditions where the evidence is currently most advanced. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/04/2019 answer text <p>Registering with and access to primary medical care services is the same for all patients, whether they are gypsies, travellers, or homeless people. People do not need to provide proof of address to register with a general practice (GP). NHS England is working with a range of community groups to redesign the patient registration leaflet so that people are aware of this when registering. The free NHS 111 service can assist anyone who has faced difficulty finding a GP or accessing other services in their local area.</p><p> </p><p>NHS England is aware of difficulties some individuals have faced when trying to register with a GP and is taking steps to address shortcomings with individual practices, working in partnership with the voluntary sector.</p><p> </p><p>The Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise Health and Wellbeing Alliance is a partnership arrangement with the aim to facilitate integrated working between the voluntary and statutory sectors, to promote equality and reduce health inequalities. It receives £1.2 million for core work from the Department, with each member receiving funding of up to £60,000. The NHS Long Term Plan has a number of different actions to support the drive to reduce obesity, including investment in tier 3 services for both children and adults and plans are in development for this expansion. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 10/04/2019 answer text <p>‘The economic burden of ill health due to diet, physical inactivity, smoking, alcohol and obesity in the UK: an update to 2006-07 NHS costs’ estimated that overweight and obesity cost the National Health Service in the United Kingdom £5.1 billion per year. This figure was uplifted to £6.1 billion in 2014/15 to take account of inflation.</p><p> </p><p>The Foresight team published ‘Tackling Obesities: Future Choices in 2007’. This estimated the annual costs of overweight and obesity to society and the economy as £27 billion in 2015, based on obesity prevalence at the time.
