The intention of the reforms is to boost participation and secure the future supply of home-grown nurses to the National Health Service and enable universities to create additional nursing and midwifery training places.</p><p> </p><p>On 7 February, the University and College Admissions Service (UCAS) published full-time undergraduate nursing and midwifery applications made by the 15 January deadline. This data showed a 4.5% increase in the number of applicants compared to the same point in 2018.</p><p> </p><p>Based on the data UCAS published in February, there is no intention to provide bursaries for nurse training course fees.</p><p> </p><p>On 9 May 2018 the former Secretary of State for Health (Rt. hon. Jeremy Hunt MP) announced a £10,000 package of golden hello payments for 2018/19 loan funded postgraduate nursing students that take up employment in learning disability, mental health or community service nursing roles. The full details of this incentive will be published in due course.</p><p> </p><p>The NHS Long Term Plan, published on 7 January 2019, sets out a vital strategic framework to ensure that over the next 10 years the NHS will have the staff it needs so that nurses have the time they need to care, working in a supportive culture that allows them to provide the expert compassionate care they are committed to providing.</p><p> </p><p>My Rt. hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care has commissioned Baroness Dido Harding, working closely with Sir David Behan, to lead a number of programmes to engage with key NHS interests to develop a detailed workforce implementation plan. However, it is the duty of a responsible Government to continue to prepare for a range of potential outcomes, including the event of ‘no deal’. The Department has undertaken extensive work to prepare for a ‘no deal’ scenario, including contingency planning, and we continue to take the necessary steps to ensure the country continues to operate smoothly from the day we leave.</p><p> </p><p>The Department is working with its partners across Government, arm’s length bodies and industry, to ensure that all relevant parties are prepared for exiting the European Union. The quality and safety of patient care is paramount in our preparedness plans.</p><p> </p><p>The Government is working to mitigate the impact of any potential delays at borders if there is ‘no deal’. Our planning aims to ensure that from the day the United Kingdom leaves the EU, we will have the necessary resources in place to maintain uninterrupted supplies of medicines and medical products.</p><p> </p><p>Over the course of August, September and October 2018, the Government published a series of technical notices, eight of which are specific to the health and care sector. Since then, we have published further guidance on preparing for a ‘no deal’ scenario.</p><p> </p><p>In preparation for the possibility of a ‘no deal’ exit, the Department, with the support of NHS England and Improvement and Public Health England, has set up a national Operational Response Centre (ORC), which is structured to be able to respond to any impacts on health and social care. This will lead on responding to disruptions to delivery and co-ordinate reporting across the health and care system; the Department has a wide pool of trained staff available to support this if needed. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/02/2019 answer text <p>The supply of food and specialised nutritional products, particularly those provided to patients and those in care, is being addressed as part of the Department’s preparedness planning for the continuity of supply and service delivery post-European Union Exit. The Department has been working in collaboration with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.</p><p>The majority of food supplied to the health and social care sector in the United Kingdom is sourced from the UK. There are certain products that are routinely sourced from other EU countries, although alternative sources and suitable substitutes exist for these foodstuffs.</p><p>Specialist nutritional products are an important part of patient care throughout the health and social care sector. In recognition of this we have made this a specific area of focus within our preparedness arrangements. Six trusts<sup>1 </sup>with challenged Emergency Departments routinely reporting ambulance-hospital handover delays are engaging with North West Ambulance Service as part of an initial 90-day improvement programme, which has now been extended further. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/01/2019 answer text <p>At Autumn Budget 2017, HM Treasury made an additional £3 billion of funding available over the next two years – £1.5 billion in each year – so that departments and the devolved administrations can continue to prepare effectively for European Union exit.</p><p> </p><p>That is in addition to the £700 million previously made available to prepare for EU exit at Autumn Budget 2016.</p><p> </p><p>In the Spring Statement on 13 March 2018, my Rt. hon. Friend the Chief Secretary to the Treasury (Elizabeth Truss MP) laid a Written Ministerial Statement, <a href="https://www.parliament.uk/business/publications/written-questions-answers-statements/written-statements/?page=1&amp;max=20&amp;questiontype=AllQuestions&amp;house=commons%2clords&amp;uin=HCWS540" target="_blank">HCWS540</a>, setting out the full Departmental allocations of the £1.5 billion for 2018/19.</p><p> </p><p>HM Treasury approved £21.1 million of funding for the Department of Health and Social Care’s preparations for EU exit in 2018/19, including planning for ‘no deal’. Spend against this allocation for 2018/19 will be included in the 2018/19 financial accounts in due course.</p><p> </p><p>The Autumn Budget 2018 confirmed an additional £500 million of cross-Government funding for 2019/20, meaning the Government will have invested over £4 billion in preparing for EU exit since 2016. This funding will help departments manage pressures and contingencies arising from EU exit preparations which fall in the 2019/20 financial year, as well as ensuring that the United Kingdom is prepared to seize the opportunities available when we leave the EU.
