star this property answer text <p>The Government takes the conservation of species seriously. The import of hunting trophies of endangered species into the UK is subject to strict controls. A permit will only be issued if no detrimental impact on the sustainability of endangered species is demonstrated and the trophy has been obtained from a legal and sustainable hunting operation. We will always do whatever we can to protect the world’s most iconic species.</p><p> </p><p>Some conservation non-governmental organisations have set out how in certain limited and rigorously controlled cases, scientific evidence shows that trophy hunting can be an effective conservation tool.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>All imports of African lion hunting trophies currently require both a Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) export permit from the country of origin and an import permit issued by the relevant EU Member State. A permit will only be issued if the applicant can demonstrate that the import will not be detrimental to the conservation of the species.</p><p> </p><p>Defra is looking carefully at hunting trophy imports of lions and other species to ensure that they do not impact on the sustainability of these species in the wild.</p> more like this

In addition, the UK continues to work hard within international forums, such as the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), to ensure that wildlife is used in a sustainable and well managed way.</p> more like this
