	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 02/07/2019 answer text <p>BEIS Ministers regularly engage with their counterparts in other departments on clean growth matters including ultra low and zero emission vehicle policy. We set out in our Road to Zero strategy published last year our mission to put the UK at the forefront of the design and manufacturing of zero emission vehicles and for all new cars and vans to be effectively zero emission by 2040.</p><p> </p><p>The Government’s has also committed £1 billion with industry to 2023 through the Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC), to research, develop and commercialise the next generation of low carbon technologies and £274 million committed by Government to the Faraday Battery Challenge to support the design, development and manufacture of electric batteries.</p><p> </p><p>Our Future of Mobility 2040 mission is ambitious but achievable and we believe it is a key part of the answer to our long term transport air quality and greenhouse gas issues. It puts us at the forefront of the global transition to zero emission vehicles. This accounted for over 15% of all UK business research and development and is a record high for the sector. This will require ambitious action across the economy building on our Clean Growth Strategy. Whether it is through our global offshore wind industry, our leadership on green finance, or our unrivalled research base leading the charge on electric vehicles, we are showing the economic benefits of how cutting emissions can help to grow our economy.</p><p> </p><p>In the power sector, this will mean significant expansion in low carbon electricity generation, with important roles for renewables, carbon capture usage and storage, and nuclear power. We are already taking action to deliver this through the offshore wind sector deal, a commitment to bi-annual allocation of Contracts for Difference for renewable electricity generation with the third allocation round launched on 29 May, the nuclear sector deal, our review of the viability of a Regulated Asset Base (RAB) funding model for new nuclear power stations, and the CCUS action plan. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/06/2019 answer text <p>The Government’s mission is to put the UK at the forefront of the design and manufacturing of zero emission vehicles, and for all new cars and vans to be effectively zero emission by 2040. There are a number of manufacturers already producing vans in the UK or with ambitious plans to begin production in coming years. The Government’s Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) offers a comprehensive package of support for ultra-low emission vehicles (ULEVs). This will see nearly £1.5bn invested in total over the period 2015-2021.</p><p> </p><p>In order to ensure the development of new technologies happens in the UK, OLEV has awarded over £300m in grants via Innovate UK, supporting vehicle manufacturers, technology companies and academia in delivering a major programme of R&amp;D into ULEVs, including vans.</p><p> </p><p>In order to incentivise the purchase of ULEV vans, grant funding has been available since 2012. The plug-in van grant provides 20% of the price of a qualifying vehicle to a maximum grant amount of £8,000, or £20,000 for the first 200 large vans (3.5t+) or trucks, and will be available in some form until at least 2020. Our grant funding for chargepoint infrastructure in homes, at workplaces and on residential streets, as well as the upcoming Charging Infrastructure Investment Fund, all support charging infrastructure for ultra-low emission vans.</p><p> </p><p>In order to aggregate demand for these vans, Government has focused on the biggest fleets. Working with environmental NGO Global Action Plan, 27 of the UK’s largest van fleet operators have joined the Clean Van Commitment committing to transition their total fleet of 65,000 vans to electric by 2028. Again, to support demand, we have legislated to increase the weight allowance for certain alternatively fuelled vans that drivers can drive on a standard Category B driving licence. This is providing financial assistance to local businesses, as well as improving infrastructure and skills.</p><p> </p><p>For instance, £47 million LGF award will release significant private sector investment in the York Central project.
