star this property answer text <p>There are no official Government statistics on the number of UK citizens of voting age resident overseas, but the World Bank’s “Estimates of Migrants Stocks in 2010” as updated by the UN Department for Social and Economic Affairs in 2013 estimates there were approximately 5.2 million British born migrants living overseas.<strong><br> <br> </strong></p><p> </p><p>The Office for National Statistics’ Annual Population Survey estimates that the total number of EU citizens (excluding British citizens) resident in the UK was 2,507,000 in 2013 (excluding the citizens of Ireland, Cyprus and Malta). The estimates are broken down by local authority rather than Parliamentary constituency.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The matching of electoral registers against Government and local authority data, referred to as ‘confirmation,’ was a one off exercise to help simplify the change to Individual Electoral Registration (IER). It resulted in 87% of existing electors being automatically transferred to the new registers under IER without needing to take any action. Data matching continues to form an important part of the system for voter registration, in verifying new applications, but also locally in identifying and verifying applications from eligible electors. We will keep under review the scope for data to further improve voter registration.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Parliamentary Voting System and Constituencies (PVSC) Act 2011 provides for the number of constituencies to be reduced from 650 to 600 and the Government remains committed to equalising the size of constituencies in order to make votes of more equal value. The Government will outline its plans for constituency boundaries when it responds to the Political and Constitutional Reform Committee’s report, <em>What next on the redrawing of parliamentary constituency boundaries?</em>, in due course.</p><p> </p><p>The Boundary Commissions are due to commence work on their next reviews of Parliamentary constituencies in spring 2016 in order to submit final reports by 1 October 2018. If approved, the new constituencies would take effect at the next General Election.</p> more like this
