unstar this property answer text <p><br>As my Rt Hon Friend the Prime Minister told the House of Commons on 21 January (col. 28) “that we have listened to concerns raised in constituencies, by Members in the House and by user groups, and when we roll out the scheme fully in March, the Government will not charge an application fee to anyone applying under the EU Settlement Scheme. Anyone who has applied during the private or public beta test phases, or who does so, will have their fee reimbursed. Details of the refunds process will be published shortly.”</p><p>It was a matter for individual organisations or employers to decide whether they wished to pay on an applicant’s behalf, give them the funds to pay, or reimburse the fee.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The Home Office is the data controller for all data processed within the EU Settlement Scheme, this includes where organisations are contracted to act on behalf of the Home Office as the Home Office. No other organisations have access to the personal information of applicants to the EU Settlement Scheme. The Home Office may however share information with other organisations, but only where the information needs to be shared and there is an appropriate legal basis for doing so. Further detail on this is set out in the Borders, Immigration and Citizenship System privacy information notice:</p><p><a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/personal-information-use-in-borders-immigration-and-citizenship." target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/personal-information-use-in-borders-immigration-and-citizenship.</a></p><p><br>The Home Office takes its data security and data protection obligations ex-tremely seriously. There are processes in place in the Home Office for the capturing and mitigation of risks and vulnerabilities to ensure appropriate con-trol of our services. I can confirm this is the case for the EU Settlement Scheme</p><p>All Home Office systems including EU Exit applications undergo rigorous cyber assessments prior to launch. This includes an independent security testing to ensure they are resilient to external attack.</p><p>Our IT systems hosting platform include a number of mechanisms to detect and respond to malicious intrusions.</p><p>All data is encrypted both in transit and at rest. Our IT staff are security cleared and your data will only be accessed by those who have a valid business reason to access it. The Home Office regularly monitors the systems for abuse and misuse.</p><p>With this non-exhaustive list of measures, we protect the data of non-UK EU citizens who register under the Settlement Scheme.</p>

unstar this property answer text <p>We have considered carefully the introduction of the EU Settlement Scheme and its implications for EU citizens and their family members.</p><p>Exempting any cohort of EU citizen from the requirement to apply to the scheme could leave them at a disadvantage because they may be unable to demonstrate their entitlements to employment, benefits and services in the same way that other EU citizens who had applied to the scheme would be able to.</p><p><br>We are clear that we want all resident EU citizens to stay and have de-signed the EU Settlement Scheme to make the application process as simple and easy as possible for all cohorts of applicants.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>We​ ​have​ ​agreed​ ​with​ ​the​ ​EU​ ​that​ ​the​ ​eligibility​ ​criteria for UK settled status​ ​will​ ​be​ ​the​ ​same as,​ ​or​ ​more​ ​favourable than,​ ​​those​ ​set​ ​out​ ​in​ ​the​ ​Free​ ​Movement​ ​Directive​ ​for​ ​acquiring permanent​ ​residence. The​ ​UK​ ​will​ set ​the​ ​evidence requirements​ ​to​ ​suit​ ​the demands​ ​of​ ​this​ ​unique​ ​situation. ​For​ ​example, we will not ask applicants to account for every trip that they have taken out of the UK, nor will we require evidence of comprehensive sickness insurance.</p><p>For those who already hold a valid EEA permanent residence document, there will be a simple process to exchange this for a settled status document, subject to ID verification and submission of a photograph, a security check and confirmation of ongoing residence. The previous residence assessment will not be re-done.</p><p>The new system will be streamlined, user-friendly and will draw on existing Government data to minimise the burden on applicants to provide documentary evidence. Further, more detailed evidential requirements are being developed and will be published in due course.</p>
