Health visitors are qualified and registered nurses or midwives who have undertaken an approved training programme in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing - Health Visiting.</p><p>The NMC has the general function of promoting high standards of education and coordinating all stages of education to ensure that health visitors are equipped with the knowledge, skills and attitudes essential for professional practice, including continuous professional development (CPD). The NMC set the standards of education and training for the nursing profession expected at undergraduate and postgraduate level and approve curricula set by individual higher education institutes. In so doing, they set out the knowledge, skills and behaviours that both postgraduate and undergraduate nurses must be able to demonstrate.</p><p>CPD is a term used to describe a number of different training and development activities which may be required for the purposes of professional practice in the National Health Service. The NMC requires 35 hours of CPD relevant to scope of practice in the three year period since registration was last renewed, or joining the register.</p><p>The NMC are in the process of rewriting their standards. This commitment was demonstrated by the launch in December 2014 of the UK Implementation Plan to accompany our National Action Plan (NAP) on WPS and my appointment in June by the Prime Minister, my right hon. Friend the Member for Witney (Mr Cameron), as his Special Representative on Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict. The UK is also a strong advocate internationally for the protection of civilians in conflict, including ensuring that protection of civilians is integrated across both humanitarian and development work. All these agendas span multiple strands of the Strategic Defence and Security Review (SDSR). 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/05/2016 answer text <p>No formal assessment has been made of the effectiveness of the National Stroke Strategy or of whether it has achieved its aims. However, we know that good progress has been made on stroke in recent years, with mortality rates decreasing.</p><p> </p><p>Part of this progress is undoubtedly due to improvements in the treatment of stroke, where we have made great strides in several areas. The most recent data from the Sentinel Stroke National Audit Project shows that:</p><p> </p><p>- Over 48% of patients receive brain scanning within one hour of hospital arrival and over 90% within 12 hours;</p><p> </p><p>- 84% of stroke patients spend more than 90% of their time in hospital on a stroke unit;</p><p> </p><p>- Clot busting drugs give a certain cohort of stroke patients a better chance of regaining their independence. 11% of stroke patients admitted to hospital receive these drugs; and</p><p> </p><p>- Over 78% of patients are assessed by a specialist stroke physician within 24 hours of admission, showing that stroke services have made good progress in delivering 7 day specialist medical services.</p><p> </p><p>However we know there is more to do and increases in levels of obesity and an ageing population lead to new pressures.</p><p> </p><p>That is why a Cardiovascular (CVD) Disease Outcomes Strategy was published in 2013. It sets out key actions for commissioners and providers to help further improve outcomes in Coronary Heart Disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases.</p><p> </p><p>NHS England hosts a CVD outcomes collaborative which brings together the relevant National Clinical Directors, the main relevant national charities, the National CVD Intelligence Network, Public Health England and the Department of Health. This collaborative continues to coordinate delivery of the work which was initiated in the CVD Outcomes Strategy.</p><p> </p><p>In February this year, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence published interventional procedure guidance on mechanical clot retrieval (thrombectomy) for treating acute ischaemic stroke. The guidance sets out that current evidence on the safety and efficacy of this procedure is adequate to support its use, provided that standard arrangements are in place for clinical governance, consent and audit. The Board members and the organisations they represent are detailed in the following table.</p><p> </p><p>NHS England and its delivery partners are developing plans to implement the vision set out in <em>Better Births</em>, the report of the National Maternity Review. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/07/2016 answer text <p>In November 2015, the Secretary of State announced a national ambition to halve the rates of stillbirths, neonatal and maternal deaths and brain injuries occurring during or soon after birth by 2030. This ambition applies to both single and multiple pregnancies.</p><p> </p><p>The Department will publish an annual report on the progress towards achieving this aim and will include information on twins and multiple births.
