unstar this property answer text <p>The UK Government works closely with African and other countries to promote the conservation of the world's wildlife, including through galvanising action to end the illegal trade in ivory.</p><p> </p><p>We hosted the London Conference on the Illegal Wildlife Trade in February 2014, and supported the Government of Botswana in its hosting of a follow-up Conference in March 2015.</p><p> </p><p>The UK actively supports the African-led Elephant Protection Initiative, launched in the margins of the London Conference, which now has eleven African countries as members. We have committed over £1 million to this initiative over the last two years.</p><p> </p><p>Defra’s Illegal Wildlife Trade Challenge Fund has made grants to 19 projects in its first round, including eight projects in Africa, worth £2.1 million, tackling the ivory trade. Projects to be funded under a second round will be announced shortly.</p><p> </p><p>The UK is also providing training in counter-poaching activity in Gabon, through the Ministry of Defence, and has provided support for judicial capacity building in skills related to tackling the illegal trade in wildlife products in Kenya and Tanzania.</p>

unstar this property answer text <p>Defra works closely with the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) to identify carbon dioxide emissions from agriculture. We provide detailed farm statistics that DECC feeds into the UK Green House Gas Inventory, which contains the UK’s official reported greenhouse gas estimates.</p><br /><p>The Inventory indicates that:</p><br /><ul><li>Only around 1% of carbon dioxide (CO<sub>2</sub>) emissions in the UK are attributed to agriculture, these relate mainly to fuel use. Since 1990 there has been an overall decline in estimated carbon dioxide emissions from agriculture.</li></ul><br /><ul><li>CO<sub>2</sub> emissions from agriculture as a proportion of the UK total have fluctuated over the last 5 years between 1.0% and 1.2%. CO<sub>2</sub> emissions from agriculture are lower in 2013 compared to 2009 by around 6%.</li></ul><br /><ul><li>CO<sub>2 </sub>emissions make up a very small portion of agriculture emissions (around 9-10%).</li></ul> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>Under the Climate Change Act 2008, the Government has a statutory role to produce, on a five-yearly cycle, an assessment of the risks and opportunities for the UK arising from climate change. The first Climate Change Risk Assessment was published in 2012. Work is underway on the second CCRA, for which Defra is funding the Adaptation Sub-Committee of the Committee on Climate Change to produce the underpinning Evidence Report by July 2016. This will include an up-to-date review of evidence on the effects of climate change on agriculture, and all other sectors. The CCRA Government Report will be laid before Parliament no later than January 2017.</p> more like this
