	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 30/07/2014 answer text <p /> <p>The Government takes the threat posed by those who travel to Syria and Iraq extremely seriously.Our priority is to dissuade people from travelling to areas of conflict in the first place, by highlighting that the best way for the public to help is to donate to UK-registered charities that have ongoing relief operations; that anyone going to Syria, even for humanitarian reasons, is at serious risk of being targeted by terrorist groups or the regime; and that travelling to Syria will place anxiety on families and friends.The Home Secretary this week backed a national campaign aimed at dissuading young people from travelling to Syria and Iraq. The campaign ‘Families Matter’ was launched on 21st July by Families Against Stress and Trauma (FAST), a community organisation which provides support to vulnerable families and individuals across the country. Through our work with law enforcement and responsible social media companies, we are making significant progress with removing online propaganda including material from proscribed groups, such as ISIL, which targets the vulnerable and encourages travel. Since December 2013, the Counter Terrorism Internet Referral Unit have removed over 21,000 pieces of unlawful terrorist material, a significant proportion of which is related to Syria and Iraq. The police and security services are actively working to detect and disrupt terrorist threats. However, Islamic State of Syria and the Levant also known as the ISIS was proscribed as a terrorist organisation with effect from 20 June. Proscription means that an organisation is outlawed and is unable to operate in the UK. It is a criminal offence for a person to belong to or invite support for a proscribed organisation. It is also a criminal offence to arrange a meeting in support of a proscribed organisation or to wear clothing or to carry articles in public which arouse reasonable suspicion that an individual is a member or supporter of the proscribed organisation. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/03/2014 answer text <p> </p><p> </p><p>HM Treasury has implemented European Union sanctions against individuals identified as responsible for the misappropriation of Ukrainian state funds.</p><p><br>The result of these sanctions is that any assets in the UK, which are owned, held or controlled by any of the 18 listed individuals identified as responsible for the misappropriation of state funds are now frozen. We will be working to ensure that these measures are robustly implemented, including by looking to uncover assets which may be hidden behind complex company structures.</p><p>A multi-agency team comprised of the National Crime Agency, the Metropolitan Police Service and the Crown Prosecution Service has visited the Ukraine to offer technical assistance and support to the Ukrainian authorities in their efforts to identify and recover embezzled state funds. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 30/06/2014 answer text <p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The Coalition Government's approach to preventing drug and alcohol abuse in the UK is captured in the 2010 Drug Strategy and the 2012 Alcohol Strategy.<br><br>The Drug Strategy 'Reducing demand, restricting supply, building recovery: supporting people to live a drug-free life' balances three key themes: reducing the demand for drugs, restricting the supply of drugs, and supporting individuals to recover from dependence. We continue to do all we can to prevent people from using drugs in the first place and intervene early with those who start to develop problems. For example, we are taking action to break intergenerational paths to drug misuse by supporting the UK's most troubled families and supporting practitioners working with young people through the production of an on-line Alcohol and Drug Education and Prevention Information Service.<br><br>We are confident that our strategic approach is producing good results. Drug use has fallen to its lowest level since records began in 1996, and people going into treatment today are more likely to free themselves from dependency than ever before. <br><br>The Alcohol Strategy proposed a range of measures to radically reshape the approach to alcohol and reduce excessive drinking and tackle the crime and health harms associated with it. We have provided more powers for local areas to restrict opening and closing times, control the density of licensed premises, and charge a late night levy to support policing. In May we introduced a ban on the worst cases of very cheap and harmful alcohol sales and are taking forward a wide range of action to tackle alcohol-related crime and disorder. This includes working with 20 Local Alcohol Action Areas to cut alcohol-related crime and disorder, and reduce the damage caused to people's health. Underpinning this work is the goal of promoting diverse and vibrant night-time economies that do not centre on drinking alcohol.<br><br>Through the Responsibility Deal, the alcohol industry has adopted a core commitment to ‘foster a culture of responsible drinking which will help people to drink within guidelines'. This includes a pledge to give consumers a wider choice of lower strength products and take one billion units out of the market by 2015. From April 2013, the NHS Healthcheck included an alcohol risk assessment for adults aged 40-75 year olds, with an assessment every five years. Academics can also speak at conferences provided it is a <br />not for profit venture. <br /><br />Academics can use the permitted paid engagement visitor route to give paid <br />lectures for up to 1 month. They must be invited by a UK Higher Education <br />Institution or a UK research or arts based organisation. <br /><br />Family members can apply as general visitors, or child visitors in the case <br />of children under 18 years, to accompany the main visitor to the UK. They <br />would be allowed to stay in the UK for up to 6 months, or 12 months where they are <br />accompanying an academic visitor.<br /><br />Academics who are employed to carry out paid research in the UK can do so under <br />the Tier 5 Government Authorised Exchange route for up to 24 months. They must <br />be sponsored by a UK Higher Education Institution.
