star this property answer text <p>The Prime Minister announced an independent review of mental health legislation and practice to tackle the issue of mental health detention on 4 October 2017. The independent review will look at a range of issues, and central to this will be a consideration of why rates of detention are increasing, and what can be done to reduce inappropriate detention and improve how different agencies respond to people in crisis. The review will make recommendations to Government in 2018.</p><p> </p><p>In addition to this, NHS England is considering the findings of the independent Commission to review the provision of acute inpatient psychiatric care for adults and intends to publish a response shortly. The Commission was established by the Royal College of Psychiatrists in January 2015 to review the provision of acute inpatient psychiatric beds. Its report <em>Old problems New Solutions: Improving acute psychiatric care for adults in England</em>, published in January 2016, made a number of recommendations for improving the service. A copy of the report is attached.</p>
