	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 24/10/2014 answer text <p>Since July 2014, Public Health England (PHE) has been issuing advice to health care providers about the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. The outbreak was declared an international public health emergency by the United Nations in August. The advice from PHE has been extensive, covering issues such as guidance on the management of patients and infection control and prevention for staff.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The Chief Medical Officer has issued three Central Alerting System alerts on the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, on 2 July, 1 August and 7 October. The alert reminded healthcare providers to remain vigilant for cases imported to the United Kingdom, emphasising the importance of taking a full travel history when assessing relevant patients and information on identifying and managing possible cases of Ebola virus disease and actions for all clinicians to ensure preparedness for the possibility of an imported case in the UK.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>These alerts were cascaded to the entire NHS in England, as well as PHE, PHE Consultants in Communicable Disease Control, PHE Consultants in Health Protection,</p><p> </p><p>Trust Microbiologists, Virologists and Infectious Disease Clinicians, private hospitals across England and Clinical Commissioning Group Leads. Women are the primary health care providers for their families and communities, form the bulk of healthcare workers in hospitals as nurses and cleaners, and are often responsible for handling female bodies for burial which brings them into direct contact with the disease. Friend the Secretary of State and his ministerial colleagues are involved in ongoing engagement with their European counterparts. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/10/2014 answer text <p>The Secretary of State laid out what hospital facilities were available for the treatment of Ebola patients during his statement to the House on 13 October 2014, Official Report, columns 28 to 46.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The National Health Service has a network of clinicians and infectious diseases units that work in a collaborative manner to manage patients with infectious diseases. In rare and complex infections, treatment is likely to include the use of isolation facilities with appropriate air handling and air filtration systems (for the protection of staff and public as per the Health and Safety Executive Advisory Committee on Dangerous Pathogens guidelines). The use of beds is managed through the network and escalated as necessary based on the needs of the presenting patient. This has now been implemented in Heathrow airport and will be expanded to Gatwick and Eurostar terminals this week and Manchester and Birmingham airport thereafter.</p><p> </p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> </p><p>On 15 October 2014, there was a Four Nations Health Ministers meeting, with the devolved administrations, to discuss the United Kingdom response to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, which included discussion on issues such as entry screening for Ebola. Additionally, officials from the Department of Health have been in regular contact with their counterparts from the devolved administrations via weekly telecommunications, in which Ebola screening at airports has been discussed.
