About 350,000 workers under the age of 25 are expected to benefit from inflation-beating increases in the National Minimum Wage rates in April 2019.</p><p> </p><p>For those young workers, the rates are set as high as possible without damaging their employment prospects, drawing upon advice from the independent Low Pay Commission. The priority is to help them secure work and gain experience and the evidence shows that it is working. The unemployment rate for people aged 16 to 24 is 11.8%, down from 20% in 2010.
