star this property answer text <p>The Foreign Secretary delivered messages of de-escalation in calls to Israeli Foreign Minister Ashkenazi on 16 May, and Palestinian Prime Minister Shtayyeh on 12 May. I spoke to the Israeli Ambassador and Palestinian Head of Mission in London on 11 May to urge them to de-escalate and restore calm and reiterate our position on this issue.</p><p>The UK is clear that the violence against peaceful worshippers at the al-Aqsa mosque was unacceptable. Attacks on peaceful worshippers must stop. We call on all sides to reduce tensions, restore calm and avoid provocation. Violence against peaceful worshippers of any faith is unacceptable. Respect for the historic Status Quo at the Holy Sites in Jerusalem is important at all times, especially during religious festivals such as Ramadan. Our priority now is to secure an immediate de-escalation on all sides.</p> more like this

The UK is the largest donor to the Cyclone Idai response having made up to £22 million available. In Zimbabwe we are funding essential health supplies, hygiene kits and child protection support. star this property answer text <p>The Foreign Secretary has not held discussions with his counterpart in Zimbabwe on the potential impact of the Health Services Bill.</p><p>However the former Minister for Africa raised broader human rights issues, including freedom of peaceful assembly and association, with the Foreign Minister of Zimbabwe on 30 June last year. And our Ambassador in Harare made a public statement on the right to peaceful assembly and association on 2 October 2022.</p><p>Embassy officials regularly engage with the Government of Zimbabwe on how to improve health service capacity. Over the last 10 years the UK has provided over £300 million in support for health system strengthening, health security and ending preventable deaths. We also discuss overall economic management including public financial management.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Bill is in part designed to change the legal framework of heath workers' rights in Zimbabwe - including, for example, potential imprisonment for undertaking industrial action.</p><p>It is possible this Bill and the potential changes to terms and conditions of service could negatively impact the ability of service providers to recruit and retain staff - thus reducing wider capacity in the health sector.</p><p>We regularly raise issues, including freedom of peaceful assembly and association, with the Zimbabwe government. The former Africa Minister discussed these issues with Zimbabwe's Foreign Minister last June, and our Ambassador made a public statement on this in October.</p> more like this

As the British Ambassador to Zimbabwe publicly stated on 2 October 2022, the UK is committed to the fundamental rights to peaceful assembly, association and due process enshrined in Zimbabwe's constitution.</p><p>It is for the people of Zimbabwe to choose their government through peaceful, credible and inclusive elections.
