star this property answer text
The last study of the completeness and accuracy of the electoral register was published by the Electoral Commission in July 2014, and found that Parliamentary registers were 85.9% complete and 86.4% accurate. This was based on the last registers published under the old household system of registration in February/March 2014. The next study of this kind will be published by the Commission this summer and will be based on the registers published in December 2015. The completeness and accuracy studies provide a nationally representative picture, and do not allow for analysis at a local authority level, such as the London Borough of Redbridge.
more like this

star this property answer text
The Electoral Commission published a report “a regulatory review of the UK’s party and electoral finance laws” in June 2013 that made 50 recommendations. The report’s first recommendation proposed changes to the reporting requirements for parties that receive and spend less than £500 annually. Such a change would require primary legislation. The Government recognises that there is a balance to be struck between reducing the burden on smaller parties and maintaining transparency of the funding of all parties which contest elections in the UK.
more like this

Online registration has proved popular: over three quarters of the 9.6 million applications to register to vote made since June 2014 have been submitted online. Since June 2014, over 2.2 million applications have been received from 16-24 year olds.

The Government strongly supports the principle underlying IER, that people must make an individual application to register to vote, and is currently examining the results of prompted enrolment schemes such as the one recently undertaken at Sheffield University, to see if they have wider application.
more like this
