	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/11/2015 answer text Work in the Central African Republic (CAR) has been an important part of the Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative in recognition of the large role that sexual violence has played in the conflict in CAR which has included the sexual abuse of women and children, sexual slavery and rape. This work has, to date, been primarily carried out through our work with the African Union (AU). Since the launch of the initiative, the UK has provided £1.3 million to support the AU’s Gender Peace and Security Programme. This includes the deployment of sexual violence experts that were deployed to the CAR in 2014. These experts provided support to victims in the districts of Paoua, Kaga-Bandoro and Bambar. This Programme also supported the AU’s Special Envoy on Women, Peace and Security, Madame Bineta Diop. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 24/07/2015 answer text The security and humanitarian situation remains grave in the Central African Republic and continues to have a severe impact on the civilian population and their human rights. The UK government underlined our concerns about this in our statement to the UN’s Human Rights Council in July. The UK co-funded the African Union’s 2014 deployment of experts to the Central African Republic to support victims of sexual violence. The deployment facilitated the rehabilitation of three health facilities, provided protection and assistance to victims of sexual violence and established a national network of government and community stakeholders, in the prevention and response to sexual violence. The UK welcomes efforts by the government of the Central African Republic and the UN to set up a Special Criminal Court to address war crimes and crimes against humanity committed since 2012. The UK welcomes the positive outcome of the Bangui Forum in particular the agreement signed between the armed groups, UN and transitional government to release all children from the ranks of the armed groups. It is important that these children are offered assistance and helped to reintegrate into society. We support the Transitional Authorities in their preparation for elections, and assist with justice, governance and state administration. The UK co-sponsored a UN Security Council Resolution authorising the deployment of a UN Peacekeeping Operation, MINUSCA, which launched in September 2014. The operation is focussing on restoring stability, preventing human rights abuses, and promoting reconciliation. The UK has also supported the EU Military Advisory Mission to the Central African Republic which launched in March 2015. The mission provides the government of the Central African Republic with expert advice on security sector reform. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/12/2015 answer text <p>The Central African Republic (CAR) is facing a severe and protracted crisis that has displaced more than a million people since 2012. Despite the deployment of 12,000 peace-keepers, the country remains marred by sectarian tension, criminal violence, arms proliferation and armed groups.</p><br /><p>In September the UK approved a £7 million uplift in our assistance to CAR and CAR refugees to address rising needs and aid gaps, bringing UK humanitarian funding to £25 million in 2015 and £58 million since 2013. This makes the UK the third largest humanitarian donor to CAR after the US and the EU in 2015.
