	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/09/2016 answer text <p>Public Health England (PHE) and the National Travel Health Network and Centre (NaTHNaC) introduced a risk-based approach for countries reporting Zika infection ahead of cases reported from Florida in the United States of America. PHE and NaTHNaC issued travel guidance about Florida as soon as cases were announced. A copy of this guidance is attached. The first locally acquired cases of Zika were reported from Florida on 29 July 2016. The guidance advised pregnant women to consider postponing non-essential travel to Florida. Links to NaTHNaC’s detailed, site-specific advice allowed clinicians to have in-depth discussions of the transmission risks in Florida with potential travellers.</p><p>A high risk alert was issued as more information became available stating: “The risk in Miami-Dade county is considered high and pregnant women are advised to postpone non-essential travel to Miami-Dade county until after their pregnancy.” Advice on reducing the risk of sexual transmission of Zika infection was also issued, which is included within the attached guidance.</p><p>The situation is constantly under review and assessment, and travel and sexual transmission guidance is updated regularly as new information emerges from Florida.</p> answering member printed Lord Prior of Brampton question first answered 16/09/2016 11:05:48 answering member 127 label Biography information for Lord Prior of Brampton attachment 1 file name PQ Zika Virus advice on NaTHNaC website HL1607.pdf title Zika advice

The aim of such work would be to measure the impact of Zika virus on obstetric services and on pregnancy and pregnancy outcomes for women.</p><p> </p><p>PHE has been working with appropriate Royal Colleges to provide updated guidance for healthcare professionals, including midwives, on the management of any symptomatic patients (particularly pregnant women) returning from affected countries. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/02/2016 answer text <p>Public Health England (PHE) and the National Travel Health Network and Centre have issued travel advice to people who may be travelling to the affected countries, particularly pregnant women and provided information for the general public through the NHS Choices website.</p><p> </p><p>PHE has been working with appropriate professional groups to develop information and guidance on Zika for clinicians. They have worked in partnership with the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) to develop specifically targeted at primary care which is available on the PHE website and has been cascaded by the RCGP. A copy of this guidance is attached.</p><p> </p><p>PHE have also issued a Central Alerting System update alert letter to clinicians, which includes specific information and guidance about Zika virus and pregnancy and general guidance on Zika virus and travel. A copy of this is attached.</p><p> </p><p>Although some evidence of sexual transmission exists and there is the possibility that blood transfusions may be able to transmit the virus this will be very rare. Transmission from mother to fetus via the placenta is also possible. If a person acquires Zika abroad and becomes ill on their return to the United Kingdom, mosquito-borne transmission will not occur as the mosquito is not present in the UK.</p><p> </p><p>Information on these issues is available on the PHE website. The independent Cancer Taskforce report, <em>Achieving World-Class Cancer Outcomes: A strategy for England 2015-2020</em>, published in July last year, recommends improvements across the cancer patient pathway. A copy of the report is attached.</p><p> </p><p>NHS England is currently working with partners across the health system to deliver the Cancer Taskforce’s recommendations. An implementation plan, <em>Achieving World-Class Cancer Outcomes: Taking the strategy forward</em>, was published on 12 May 2016 and we hope to see great progress as it is delivered. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 10/03/2016 answer text <p>The review of wound dressings by a dedicated working group resulted in the development of a number of clinical specifications for wound care products.</p><p> </p><p>In order to progress this work, from April 2016 a new NHS Clinical Evaluation Team will be put in place. The Clinical Evaluation Team will assess wound care products through a comprehensive evaluation process, which will have extensive engagement with NHS clinical staff. Included in the process will be tissue viability and infection control nurses, clinical procurement specialists, doctors, nurses and midwives along with medicine management practitioners from community trusts.</p><p> </p><p>The project’s remit is to review clinical products to identify those that enable high quality patient care whilst delivering the best outcomes for the NHS. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/01/2016 answer text <p>The wide variety of choice in the current system is leading to duplication of wound care products. This can create more complexity for nurses and clinicians, making their clinical decisions more difficult and potentially leading to over specification and variation in standards of care. Of the 4,796 wound care products available through the NHS Supply Chain, 34% of lines have had no sales in the last 12 months.</p><br /><p>Providing an agreed set of National Health Service requirements for wound care products will start to reduce this duplication, complexity and therefore potential risk, helping to improve patient outcomes through less variation in care.</p><br /><p>This issue was also highlighted by 74% of respondents to a Royal College of Nursing survey run by Nursing Times (Dec 2014) seeing opportunities to reduce duplication on wound care products, (more than any other type of product).</p><br /><p>The project is part of a wider piece of work the Department is working with the NHS Supply Chain on to deliver £300 million of savings by October 2018. Central to this is reducing the number of specifications and variations by category so the NHS can leverage its scale and deliver clinically appropriate solutions that represent ‘value for money’.
