star this property answer text <p>As co-hosts of the London Conference on Afghanistan (LCA), the UK government has agreed the overall invitation list in partnership with the Afghan Government. However, decisions on civil society attendees have been made by Afghanistan civil society themselves (rather than the UK or Afghan Government) through a democratic process in Kabul. At least 45% of these elected, sponsored attendees are Afghan women who are scheduled to contribute fully to the civil society event and its outcomes<em>. </em>The make-up of the official Afghan government delegation is for the Afghans themselves to decide, however we will be encouraging them to ensure that this includes female Afghan representatives.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Despite generally good aggregate cereal harvests for the fourth consecutive year in 2014/15, 16 million people remain chronically food insecure and highly vulnerable to production shocks. The UN Food and Agricultural Organisation/ World Food Programme Crop and Food Security Assessment Mission to the Democratic people’s Republic of Korea, 2013, reported an estimated uncovered food deficit of 40,000 tonnes for that marketing year. star this property answer text <p>The Department for International Development (DFID) has committed £300m for 2013-2019 to support polio eradication efforts led by the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI). GPEI is co-funded by a broad range of public and private donors including the European Union. It works with polio-affected countries and implementing partners, including civil society groups such as Rotary International, to eradicate polio. The Secretary of State for International Development has also engaged closely with Rotary International on its work on polio eradication and was presented with Rotary’s Polio Eradication Champion award in November last year.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Public private product development partnerships (PDPs) have been shown to expedite the development of new drugs, vaccines and diagnostic tests, achieving results faster than either the public or private sectors alone.</p><p> </p><p>Prior to the creation of PDPs, only 20 drugs were developed for neglected diseases between 1975 and 2000. Since 2000, UK Government funded PDPs have developed 19 new products including drugs for malaria, TB, neglected tropical diseases (such as sleeping sickness and visceral leishmaniasis), one vaccine for diarrhoea (rotavirus) and six new diagnostic tests (5 for TB and the first ever rapid diagnostic test for sleeping sickness).</p><p> </p> more like this
