	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/07/2019 answer text <p>The UK is preparing to strengthen its trade ties with international partners, including China and India post EU-exit.</p><p> </p><p>In January 2018, the UK and China launched a Joint Trade and Investment Review to explore options to enhance their trade and investment relationship, without pre-judging outcomes. My Rt Hon. Friend the Secretary of State for International Trade visited China five times in 2018 to discuss our ambition for a strong trade partnership.</p><p> </p><p>The UK-India Joint Trade Review, announced during the Prime Minister’s visit to India in 2016, has helped us better understand the UK-India trade relationship. In April 2018, both Prime Ministers agreed to forge a new trade partnership, to take forward recommendations from the Review. The President and Prime Minister have made clear on a number of occasions, including during the recent State Visit, their shared commitment to an ambitious, wide-ranging free trade deal that reflects the strength of our bilateral relationship.</p><p> </p><p>The Department for International Trade will commence the sixth Trade and Investment Working Group with officials from United States Trade Representative in early-July. Until that deal is in place, we must prepare for all eventualities. The Government has set out what issues business, including exporting businesses, need to consider in a no-deal scenario and the Public Information Campaign directs business to that information on GOV.UK.</p><p> </p><p>The Department for International Trade’s frontline International Trade Advisers are regularly updated with the latest GOV.UK updates and information to help SMEs across England prepare for leaving the EU. International Trade Advisers are using this information to ensure SMEs are promptly referred to the latest available EU Exit business readiness information, including the HMRC Partnership Pack. My Department is also working closely with our counterparts in the Devolved Administrations to ensure that similar guidance is available to SMEs in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales.</p><p> </p><p>In addition my Department continues to work closely with BEIS and HMRC to ensure that the published Public Information Campaign guidance is widely circulated. My Department has briefed Business Representative Organisations, including the BCC and CBI, on the support available to help companies prepare for the UK leaving the EU. Other Government Departments are also supporting this cross-Government effort to help SMEs as they prepare for leaving the EU. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/03/2019 answer text <p>DIT is leading on Government’s shared intent to safeguard the UK’s position as a world-leading destination for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).</p><p> </p><p>The UK has many strengths that attract investors: an open, liberal economy, world-class talent and a business-friendly environment. The most recent data from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) ranked the UK as third globally for FDI in 2017—and the number one destination in Europe, ahead of Germany.</p><p> </p><p>DIT is supporting investment into local communities by targeting promotional support towards projects with the greatest potential to maximise national wealth and value for money. As part of this approach, DIT is working with local partners to systematically identify emerging clusters, sub-sectors, supply chain gaps or other ‘High Potential Opportunities’ where lack of market information is leading to structural under-investment. We are committed to continuing to increase bilateral trade with South Africa, including by transitioning the current trading arrangements as the UK leaves the EU. Total trade in goods and services between the UK and South Africa was £8.8bn in the four quarters to the end of Q3 2018, an increase of 4.4% from the previous four quarters.
