The Yemeni parties must engage constructively and in good faith to overcome obstacles and find a political solution to end the conflict. The UK continues to play a leading role in international efforts to achieve this goal. The Foreign Secretary discusses the military and political situation in Yemen with the Foreign Ministers of the United States of America, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia regularly, and most recently on 23 January at our Embassy in Paris. In June last year the UK sponsored and coordinated a UN Security Council Presidential Statement, agreed on 15 June, which called upon the parties to the conflict to agree the modalities for a ceasefire, take steps to address the humanitarian crisis and restart political talks. We are now working urgently with our international and regional partners to ensure that the Security Council's words are converted into action. We regularly raise the importance of compliance with IHL with the Saudi Arabian Government and other members of the Coalition. The Joint Incidents Assessment Team (JIAT) is the Coalition mechanism for investigating allegations of IHL violations. On Monday 12 November, the Foreign Secretary held constructive talks with the senior leadership of Saudi Arabia addressing the importance of respect for IHL, and the need for an urgent end to the conflict in Yemen, and a swift improvement in the dire humanitarian situation. The UK continues to strongly support the work of UN Special Envoy, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, and his tireless efforts in working with all parties to bring about peace in Yemen. We deeply regret the failure of the parties to reach an agreement in Kuwait and urge them to find the compromises that will end the current conflict. The secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my right hon. Friend the Member for Uxbridge and South Ruislip (Mr Johnson) hosted the Foreign Ministers of the US, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates in London on 19 July to discuss the situation in Yemen, including the deteriorating humanitarian and economic situation and to encourage commitment from the Yemeni parties to the political process. I represented the UK at a subsequent meeting in Jeddah on 25 August.
