star this property answer text <p>In order to reduce the number of ‘did not attend’ events, the COVID-19 vaccine programme will cancel appointments where people are identified as having received the vaccination, send reminders to those to advise they should cancel their appointments if they can no longer attend and has provided Primary Care Networks with access to National Booking System appointments to avoid inviting those with existing appointments.</p><p>The vaccine programme’s delivery models also provide options on vaccination sites, including walk-in services to reduce the number of unattended appointments and cancellations.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>On 18 January 2022 the National Health Service launched the 'Grab a Jab' campaign, with 1,800 walk-in sites available. More than 1,000 of these sites are open every day. The opening times of vaccination sites have been extended to seven days a week and general practitioners and pharmacies have been asked to provide more vaccination appointments.</p><p>The ‘Get Boosted Now’ communications campaign began on 12 December 2021 to encourage those eligible to receive their COVID-19 booster. Ministers, scientists, clinicians and celebrities have shared messages on the need for booster vaccinations to reach a wide audience. This is supported by a large-scale marketing campaign including TV, radio, press partnerships, social media and digital/social media takeovers.</p><p> </p> more like this

However, the purpose of PCR testing in the wider population is to identify positive cases for public health reasons and to reduce transmission. star this property answer text <p>Manufacturers and distributors wishing to place a COVID-19 test on the market in the United Kingdom, including for sale to the National Health Service, must seek approval under the Medical Devices (Coronavirus Test Device Approvals) (Amendment) Regulations 2021. The approval process involves a review of evidence provided by the manufacturer about the performance of the test. Tests are approved where the manufacturer has provided suitable evidence that it meets performance thresholds in the Regulations. Cycle threshold (Ct) is a semi-quantitative value which can broadly categorise the concentration of viral genetic material in a patient sample as low, medium or high. The reporting of many laboratories, including the Lighthouse Laboratories, includes Ct values. However, a single Ct value in the absence of clinical context cannot be relied upon for decision making about a person’s infectivity. Ct values cannot be directly compared between assays of different types. Not all laboratories will use the same assay and some may use more than one.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Office for National Statistics (ONS) have published an extensive methodology document in relation to their COVID-19 Infection Survey, which states that:</p><p> </p><p>“All estimates presented in our bulletins are provisional results. As swabs are not necessarily analysed in date order by the laboratory, we have not yet received test results for all swabs taken on the dates included in this analysis. Estimates may therefore be revised as more test results are included”.</p><p><em> </em></p><p> </p><p>The ONS COVID-19 Infection Survey is one of the many data sources the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies include in their scientific advice to Government used to inform decisions on COVID-19 restrictions. Other data sources include the REACT STUDY, Test and Trace data and COVID-19 deaths and hospital admissions. Collectively this data highlighted the need to tighten restrictions in November 2020.</p><p> </p><p>The ONS COVID-19 Infection Survey is a pilot study developed at pace to help monitor the situation as it evolves and is therefore undergoing continual quality improvement.</p>

star this property answer text <p>Currently there are nine validated polymerase chain reaction tests used in the National Health Service as follows:</p><p>- Abbott Alinity m SARS-COV-2 assay;</p><p>- Abbott m2000 real time SARS-COV-2 assay;</p><p>- Life Technologies (ThermoFisher) TaqPath Covid assay;</p><p>- Hologic Panther Aptima SARS-COV-2 assay;</p><p>- Cepheid GeneXpert;</p><p>- Roche Cobas Liat;</p><p>- DNA Nudge;</p><p>- PrimerDesign PROmate; and</p><p>- Roche Cobas.</p><p>Since 31 December 2021, we no longer nationally procure DNA Nudge. From 31 March 2022 we will no longer nationally procure Primer Design PROmate. NHS trusts may also locally procure tests which would undergo local validation and verification before use, as part of their ISO 15189 accreditation.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Throughout the pandemic, the Government has listened carefully to the views of the scientific community, the information from the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) and its sub-groups when taking decisions on the best way to tackle the pandemic.</p><p>In recognition of the importance of transparency in these unprecedented times, SAGE has been publishing the statements and the accompanying evidence it has reviewed to demonstrate how the scientific understanding of COVID-19 has continued to evolve as new data emerges and how SAGE’s advice has quickly adapted to new findings that reflect a changing situation. Hospitality venues such as cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars and social clubs must close, with the exception of providing food and non-alcoholic drinks for takeaway until 11pm, click-and-collect and drive-through. All food and drink including alcohol can continue to be provided by delivery.</p><p>The Government has these restrictions constantly under review.</p> more like this
