In 2018, the Government announced its intention to run auctions under the scheme every two years. The last auction took place in 2019, and the next is scheduled to take place in 2021. In the absence of a capacity cap or similar constraint, competitors in Contract for Difference auctions would have no incentive to bid below the wholesale price of electricity. A capacity cap was first deployed in the third Contract for Difference auction in 2019, which secured nearly twice the capacity of the previous auction with a 30% reduction in clearing prices. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 29/04/2021 answer text <p>Renewable deployment has been a huge success in the UK and renewable generation has more than quadrupled since 2010, totalling 37% of electricity generation in 2019 (source: Digest of UK Energy Statistics 2020). Our continued support has seen the cost of renewable technologies fall – the cost of offshore wind, for example, has fallen by more than two thirds since 2015.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has committed up to £557 million for future Contracts for Difference auctions, with the next allocation round due to take place later this year. We continue to evolve the Contracts for Difference scheme and have recently engaged with industry through a call for evidence, looking at how to balance enabling deployment with minimising system costs and, therefore, costs to consumers. This will be used to inform the design of future allocation rounds.</p><p> </p><p>The costs incurred by renewable energy projects when connecting to the grid are a matter for Ofgem, as the independent regulator. The UK's main support mechanism is the Contracts for Difference Scheme (CfD), which has been hugely successful at bringing forward large-scale renewable generation at low costs to the consumer.</p><p> </p><p>Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) can improve the financial viability of renewable projects built without Government support. PPAs of this nature do not add to consumer levy costs, have the potential to create additional renewable generation capacity and can reduce overall demands on the grid if meeting the needs of large energy users. Contracts for Difference offer value-for-money to consumers and continue to deliver low prices. For example, between the first allocation round in 2015 and the most recent round in 2019, the price per unit (MWh) of offshore wind fell by around 65%.</p><p> </p><p>Competitive auctions are proven to be effective in helping to keep costs down, and this year’s auction has been designed to keep the allocation process highly competitive. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 30/11/2015 answer text <p>Part of the purpose of the feed-in tariff (FIT) review consultation was to gather views on the broader economic impact of the proposed changes. We also sought views on whether the scheme should be focussed towards specific groups or sectors which might, for example, include households or communities. We had a strong response from community energy groups via the consultation and workshops.</p><p>The actual impact on the community sector will depend on the options taken forward after all responses to the consultation have been considered. We are currently analysing feedback submitted during the consultation and intend to publish a Government response as soon as possible.</p><p>The purpose of the tax-advantaged venture capital schemes is to provide funding to smaller higher-risk companies that would otherwise struggle to access finance to develop and grow. To ensure that the schemes are well targeted and deliver value for money, the government announced at the Autumn Statement the exclusion of all remaining energy generation activities from the schemes. This follows the exclusion of certain types of energy generation in 2012, 2014 and 2015, including most recently the announcement that the provision of reserve energy generating capacity and the generation of renewable energy benefiting from other government support by community energy organisations would be excluded from the schemes with effect from 30<sup>th</sup> November 2015, as well as from Social Investment Tax Relief when that scheme is expanded. The Government recognises the economic benefits it can derive from renewable energy and is committed to developing these. The Government has taken a number of fiscal steps to support the deployment of renewable energy, including:<p> </p><p>We have moved to annual Contract for Difference auctions, bringing forward the next round to March 2023. This will help to encourage low-carbon generation and provide greater confidence to investors and supply chain companies.</p><p> </p><p>We are investing £160 million in offshore wind ports and the supply chain through the Offshore Wind Manufacturing and Investment Scheme (OWMIS) and have announced up to another £160 million to support development of the floating supply chain.
