star this property answer text <p>At the last Spending Round the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced that £5 million is being made available for the Office for Veterans' Affairs in 2020/2021. The costs of setting up the Office for Veterans' Affairs were met from existing budgets in the Cabinet Office and the Ministry of Defence, and included time from existing staff.</p><p>Furthermore, this does not represent the totality of government spend to support veterans. For example, we recently announced an additional £10 million to support veterans' mental health and wellbeing needs.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>UK public procurement policy is to award contracts on the basis of value for money, which means the optimal combination of cost and quality over the lifetime of the project. Public sector procurers are required to assess value for money from the perspective of the contracting authority, using criteria linked to the subject matter of the contract, including compliance with the published specification</p><p><br>Decisions on whether to outsource any particular service are made on a case by case basis according to Treasury guidance and the Outsourcing Playbook. This guidance aims to ensure government makes well evidenced assessments when deciding whether to outsource a public service and helps government and industry work better together to deliver high quality public services.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Public sector bodies (contracting authorities) in all EU Member States are required by the EU Procurement Directives to award public contracts above certain thresholds using the overarching award criterion of the most economically advantageous tender (MEAT). Article 67 of Directive 2014/24/EU sets out the definition of MEAT. Within this framework, individual contracting authorities are free to set out their detailed award criteria on a contract-by-contract basis, taking account of the specificities of the particular procurement in question.</p> more like this

To this end, we have simplified procurement processes, and we are implementing a range of measures, such as taking account of social value when awarding contracts. From September, if government contractors are late with supplier payments, they could be prevented from winning public contracts.
