	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/09/2015 answer text <p>Current superfast broadband coverage is over 83% of UK premises and the Government remains committed to providing 95% coverage to homes and businesses by December 2017. Coverage of superfast broadband in England is 84% according to Ofcom’s Communications Market Report published in August 2015. By the end of the Northumberland project, anticipated by December 2016, over 91% of premises are expected to have access to superfast broadband. No decisions have been taken at this stage.</p><p> </p><p>Any broadband USO would have to comply with the European Universal Service Directive. That is why security will be a theme throughout the government funded Internet of Things programme (IoTUK). We have included £10m for additional research to design in security, privacy and trust in IoT-related systems. In his report on the Internet of Things the Government Chief Scientist advised that security should be considered at the beginning and throughout the life cycle of Internet of Things applications. DCMS, the BBC and commercial radio are jointly funding the long term expansion of the local DAB network with the building of 182 new digital transmitters across Scotland, Wales, England and Northern Ireland and technical/frequency changes at a further 49 existing local DAB sites by the end of September 2016. As a result of this new investment, according to the independent communications regulator Ofcom, it is expected that local DAB coverage in Scotland will increase from 65% to 86% of households.</p><p>Ofcom has published detailed maps outlining the improvements to local DAB coverage for the local digital radio multiplex areas in Scotland and these are available at:<a href="http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/broadcasting/radio/coverage/dab-coverage-plans/" target="_blank">http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/broadcasting/radio/coverage/dab-coverage-plans/</a></p><p>Separately the BBC is rolling out its national DAB network to a further 163 transmitter sites across the UK, scheduled for completion by the end of 2015. The current contracted coverage is to provide superfast broadband access to 117,493 homes and businesses in the county, extending coverage to nearly 91% of premises. Procurement is still under way for part of the funding and coverage will be extended further once contracts are agreed. As 30 June 2015, the Suffolk project had covered 84,447 superfast premises.</p><p><br>Over £81 million of government funding has been committed to improving superfast broadband coverage in the East of England (including Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes).
