They do not determine whether a claim to Personal Independence Payment or Employment and Support Allowance is successful. They provide a report to DWP’s decision makers who then determine entitlement to benefit. No targets are in place as to how many applications are successful.</p><p>Where a need for additional support or training is identified, feedback is provided to the assessor and appropriate action taken.</p> more like this

It is designed to mirror the Work Capability Assessment which relates to functional ability in the workplace rather than being linked to specific conditions. The form is regularly reviewed and revised and we have worked closely with a number of charities and stakeholder groups to make changes to the ESA50.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>There are no plans to introduce the mandatory recordings of assessments for Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) and Personal Independence Payments (PIP).</p><p> </p><p>Whilst there is no legal need to record assessments, claimants can request in advance that their ESA assessment is recorded. This is explained to claimants in the letter inviting them to their face-to-face assessment.</p><p> </p><p>On 13 March a small-scale pilot started to test whether there are any benefits to audio recording PIP face-to-face assessments. Once the results of this pilot have been processed and evaluated, we will be able to make further decisions on whether DWP will consider recording PIP assessments in the future.</p><p> </p><p>However, assessment recording will always be entirely voluntary and subject to claimant consent.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>This change will come into effect in autumn 2017 and will apply to those placed in Employment and Support Allowance’s Support Group and the Universal Credit equivalent.</p><p> </p><p>Whilst the new criteria and process for this group of claimants is developed, we do not plan to reassess claimants who had the most severe health conditions or disabilities when they had their first Work Capability Assessment. We are currently working with stakeholders to develop the new criteria and, when finalised, we will revisit this group to confirm the position, but we expect this will not require a face-to-face assessment.</p> more like this
