unstar this property answer text <p>As Minister with responsibility for Cadets, I commend the good work Cadet forces do in Northern Ireland and welcome invitations to visit its Cadet establishments. I met with Cadets in East Londonderry on 23 June 2018. I also met Cadets in Belfast on 11 November 2018. The Secretary of State for Defence has not visited Cadets in north west Northern Ireland, although he did meet with Cadets on 8 September 2018 in Enniskillen.</p> more like this

The Ministry of Defence does not directly allocate funding to Cadet forces, but instead funds are disaggregated to the single Services through the annual budget process. The single Services do not hold discrete cadet budgets and the cost of delivering and supporting cadet activity falls across a wide spread of different business areas, agencies and organisations.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The Ministry of Defence (MOD) has robust procedures in place to protect cadets. This includes ensuring that all adults who work with children are required to undergo mandatory security and background checks, are subject to rigorous disclosure procedures and receive regular safeguarding training. We encourage anyone who has been a victim, or knows someone who has, to report it to the police.</p><p> </p><p>The cadet organisations have comprehensive reporting procedures in place to ensure that when they are made aware of an incident it is acted upon immediately; any allegation involving possible criminal activity is reported to the appropriate authorities for investigation. Background checks are undertaken for all Adult volunteers and unlike many other youth organisations, the checks are redone or updated every five years. Whilst each Cadet Headquarters has safeguarding expertise and can provide advice, victims of past abuse are directed to the various professional organisations e.g. the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, who specialise in this type of support.</p><p> </p><p>In the period 2012 – June 2017, 363 abuse allegations were made to the MOD of which 282 were referred to the police. Information on the number of prosecutions would be held by the relevant individual police forces. The MOD does not hold this detail.</p><p> </p>

unstar this property answer text <p>Information about the introduction of the new Cadet Forces Commission has been promulgated through single Service communication channels. All Cadet Force Adult Volunteer Officers have been informed of the new Commission.</p><p>The Royal Warrant for the Cadet Forces Commission was approved by Her Majesty The Queen in October 2017 to come into force on 1 November 2017. This enabled the single Services to approve new regulations and delegate the necessary authority to allow the new Commission to be awarded across all cadet forces from 1 December 2017.</p><p>From this date all newly commissioned officers in the cadet forces will be appointed to the new Commission, as will existing officers, including those in the Combined Cadet Force (RAF) and Air Training Corps.</p> more like this
